Faulty, I  have just been checking some UK stat's. The under 50's are about twice as likely to get blood clots than over 50's from AZ. It is still a very low number compared to the pill for instance. But why are older people being used to get rid of the surplus drug. We could do as other countries have done and given it to poorer desperate countries. We will all probably have to have the mRNA drugs eventually anyway to combat the mutations.

Everyone is forgetting that a certain percentage of the population (of all ages) will develop blood clots regardless of taking any covid vaccines. And of course the older brigade are more at risk than the younger demographic.

It will be years, as it is with any "normal" vaccine development, before we know the true effects of taking these new vaccines. As usual, there is no accelerated wear test for a vaccine. ie: no substitute for time.

Not sure it's a "surplus" drug, but it is certainly the cheapest. I have no doubt that the price plays a very large part in its preferential treatment by the government.

 

AS an aside, I thought the A.Z drug would be very popular in 3rd world countries where it can be stored without deep freezing, but my second home of The Philippines lead the way in their reluctance to take the A.Z drug. They simply don't trust it, regardless of age.

The issue is, I think, that Pfizer is not open for all under 50s yet, is it? In NSW, Pfizer is open to 40-49, even if not in 1a/1b and obviously for all 1a/1b. Also to family/close contacts (baby sitters etc I think) of health workers.

I think it would be a very poor look if AFL players not in those categories got the vaccine ahead of the general population, especially vulnerable groups who remain unvaccinated.

we have vaccinated less than 400000 people In the same time USA have done  50% of the population

It's quite simple.  There are more people than mRNA vaccines.  It's critical that we get vaccinated to return to a normal life and save lives.  So those that are in the (already) low risk bracket get AZ and those in the low but slightly higher risk get mRNA,

Your attitude means these lockdowns will likely go on for many more months than necessary if those that can safely get vacinnated don't.  We live in a community and what we do is important to that community.

I’ll be honest I haven’t been paying close attention to the roll-out but this eminent lock down will focus my mind. I’ll be researching and taking a much closer look at it.

Agree the AFL will need to consider very carefully before advocating for player vaccination.

Risk categories and health workers absolutely get priority. 100% agree with you there.

But scenarios where vaccines are there but people aren’t turning up to take them has to be questioned. We can’t let hold-outs or stragglers, no matter their risk status, delay a broader roll-out. If there are people in the community who are prepared to get vaccinated in full knowledge of the risks then they should be allowed to do so, on the proviso they are not taking a vaccine which a person in a risk category is ready and willing to take.

To use a Melbourne analogy, waiting 6 months for the Pfizer jab over the AZ is like refusing, when the bushfire is coming, to evacuate in a Land Rover because you want to wait for a Range Rover.

ManDee should be allowed to make an informed decision about which vaccine he wants to take. It’s his body and his right. We’re a liberal democracy not the Soviet Union.

However, if he decides not to take an available vaccine and chooses to wait for a vaccine of his preference then he should be re-categorised with the rest of the general population. That’s only fair imv. We can’t delay the broader roll-out.

I've heard on the ABC that at some 'mass vac' sites, if younger people turn up there late in the day they will get the AZ vac's if there is a surplus on that day.  A few 'ifs' there but may be worth checking out in your area.

Totally agree with this, I will take any vaccine, why do I have to wait for antivacs, contentious objectors and those who want to wait for their preferred vaccination type etc.

Obviously I don’t want to use a vaccination needed for critical wokrkers etc but people have had ample time to get a shot now. My wife works at a hospital and had hers months ago.

Assume we'll play on this week without crowds. Bye next week. AFL will likely see what's happening re: cases and lockdown but be preparing to head to other states NSW & QLD for a few weeks of Hubs with the hope of returning to Victoria before the end of the season (sooner rather than later in the season if possible).
