This is only the case for close contacts.

Which longmire and his merry band of assistants are not

From the fox article linked above:

NSW Health has declared that anyone who visited the Azure Cafe during that time frame is a casual contact, meaning they must get tested and self-isolate until receiving a negative result.

They better let us attend. How are we in Melbourne a risk? FFS Covid is the biggest [censored]. Must be a Pies fan.

I might have missed something but wasn’t it our choice to travel the same day to Tassie or were we forced to do this?

Forced

On a slightly related note, did anyone catch Gawn mentioning same day travel on the podcast?

Gawny mentioned how same day travel for early arvo games doesn't work too well for a lot of players like himself. As he mentioned getting up at 3am to travel to the airport must mean a pretty early flight but sounds like it definitely had an impact on the players energy. It was pretty clear in that first quarter. Obviously due to covid it sounds like its necessary but hopefully something that doesn't happen as often in the future. Hate to see games impacted by things like same day/morning travel with players tired from early starts/planes.

Anyway this is a night game so I image less of an impact.

Same day travel is ludicrous for a professional sports organisation.  I've travelled alot through my work and nowadays wouldn't even consider travelling on the same day as an important meeting or client engagement. Both the early start and sitting in an aeroplane without fresh air is taxing on the body.

Its disgraceful that the game was played in Tasmania if the teams were forced to travel on the same day as part of the conditions of the game going ahead there.   That stupidity should have been called out and the game moved to Etihad.

The Age reporting 3 Sydney assistants won’t be making the trip to Melbourne for fear they may not be let into Melb.

We cant lose this game.  We just cant.

Casey v Swans postponed which is not great for our guys pushing for selection. Can't see why Swans 1st. Team have can go ahead but reserves can't

Damn that’s really tough on the likes of Weid who are trying to smash the door down. I’d like to see the club make Sam and emergency in that case to make it clear that he is on the cusp.

You'd have to start doing that from the intersection at Church St onwards...otherwise you wouldn't have a prayer.

That was a play on words Trigon... SWAN St... Sydney....

Didn't work by the looks of it ?

Yeah, this'll be interesting. You'd imagine this would have to impact the players. Possibly in a good way, but far more likely in a negative way. Limited line coaches.

I wonder how many staff travel interstate. Do medical staff and water people tend to travel or are locals employed?

I’ll be [censored] if they block fans from this game too. This is the first one I’m actually going to be able to attend for the year!

Domainfax is reporting Longmire usually coaches from the benches with the assistants providing feedback from on high.

Whilst I am happy with any advantage, if we beat them, people are going to say "oh jeez the Dees only won as three of Sydney's assistants weren't there which hamstrung THE LEAD COACH [emphasis mine for sarc]". Then again, as my new favourite book says, "zero fks given".

I doubt the 3 assistants not being at the ground will make much difference.

They will get all the usual vision and instant stats on whatever digital device they use, as if they were in the box.  They will relay/talk with Longmire, as if they were in the box.  The only difference is personally addressing players and lines at the breaks.  As someone else mentioned addresses in the rooms can be done by zoom.  Not ideal.  Just a hiccup I suggest and they have 3 days to set up whatever is needed.

If we win we win on our merits.

Yes it was, I added a further word play, intersection of Swan St & Church - prayer reference, took a Punt that people would get it.

Same! I’ve already packed my lil bag: sangas, hand-warmers, ponchos, a contract to put out on Buddy Franklin’s head. You know, the usual.
The contract has yet to be signed but I’m sure I’ll have no trouble finding a willing signatory at the ground. (Please form an orderly queue.) ?

Yeah, I won't care. Richmond had all the luck going their way in 2017 and didn't have an injury until 2018.

I notice all the tipsters on the AFL website, except one, tipped us. So I don't think it will be used as an excuse.

And if we lose the media will bang on about how it's Sydney's best win in their club's history as it was done against such adversity.

Really need to take care of business here.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
