I think mature players like Jones are perfect for the sub. Experience to play where required, can play a full game if needed or a burst when some pace has gone from the ground. Can provide support from the bench and doesn't stiffle development like having a younger player on only limited or no game time. If he was sub a few weeks in a row it wouldn't have a severe impact on his residual fitness and less soreness slowing him down.

I like.  The recovery / rest and maybe half a game makes complete rest.  Experience galore as well and knows how to carry out almost any role required.  As you say he'll come on fresh and can go all out in a shortened game (for him) if he does get subbed.

Jeez I hope Ben Brown shuts Dunstall up.

Dunstall didn't complain when Hawthorn brought in their 3rd tall.
I like Dunstall but he has absolutely no respect for Melbourne whatsoever, and sticks the boots in at every opportunity.

There are plenty out there in the media who would be very happy for Melbourne to sit at the bottom of the ladder forever. Well I've got news for them.

Seriously what is Dunstall going on about. I've plenty of time for him as an analyst but he's talking nonsense just now. As if you're not going to bring in Ben Brown when he's fit and ready to play

Reasonable test, not convinced on the 10 goal line. Just need to go in and get it done today

Really? Where?

If we knew midweek why didn’t we keep Sparrow free? Surely he’s more deserving of a seniors spot than Baker? If not Sparrow then Chandler?

We’ve tried hard all year to keep players in similar roles. If our plan is to move Brayshaw or Melksham into Viney’s role, I’m surprised. Sparrow fills Viney’a spot well IMO.

Meanwhile the MFCSS is settling in well right now...

Just out of interest, statistically Jones & Sparrow are pretty much level pegging this season.  Obviously a few more years ahead of Sparrow though.

Kozzie was held off the ball then...

Last time i looked wasn't tunnel ball a throw?

Mmmmm

Danger game already.

Haha what a joke! Imagine he beat Neitz record by being medical sub for 6 rounds!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
