Simply not true. Bias is a terrible thing because it blinds us to what is right in front if us. Melksham had 9 score involvements and kicked three goals. Did you even see his amazing kicks to set up Gawn and Jones? Gawn kicked the goal. It’s not Melksham’s fault Jones missed a simple shot at goal. Melksham was only on the ground for 69% of game time. Was he perfect? Of course not. Second game back and coming along very well. We need him because he is the most creative forward we have.

The left footed pass to Jones was nice, but apart from that kick to Jones and the kick to Gawn 1/3rd of the way through the last I noticed a lot of Melksham sub par efforts and not a lot of positives until the last 10 minutes. He has to do more to stay involved in the game. Attacking the ball with conviction would be a good start.

69% game time is about right for a mid/forward rotation player, I don't think that means anything.

I would bring in Ben Brown before Weids for M Brown.

Weids is up and down. Would like to see him consistent before the call up. 

Brown needs to be our spearhead for the season, if ready bring him in.

Weids will get his chance.

May for Petty.

Had 4 changes this week so two is enough.

Oh, maybe Sparrow for Jordon. Get him to follow Martin around.

Thought I saw the body language of Sparrow near the end. Oh no, those sprints up and down the G again.

If they are all available only Fritsch self selects

Next you need a relief ruck... does LJ hold his position on that basis alone or ??

Fascinating conundrum but no way you can play 5

I have no idea but is LJ  the weakest link (BTW he has a great future)

Gutsy... could be revolutionary... but does it work in a Melbourne winter

Both T Mac and Weid have backed up Gawn in recent seasons

If May is fit he replaces Petty. If he's not fit, Petty stays. We can't mess with structure by forcing Lever to guard Lynch/Riewoldt. Richmond could well just decoy whoever he sits on and it will throw us out. Lever needs to have freedom to peel off which means he needs Tomlinson and Petty/May covering him.

To get both Weid and B Brown into the side, IMO Jones is the other one to make way. That won't happen this week so for now only one of the two big guys comes in. Will probably be Weid after the 7, with B Brown to get one more full run at Casey.

Then we need to get Fritsch back in. I think one way we do that is he replaces Jordon, with Melksham pushing up into Jordon's midfield minutes. Another option will be if ANB plays more like he did in the first quarter today and less like he did in the second half. ANB absolutely does not deserve to be dropped yet, but as the players start to press for selection, he has to ensure he doesn't play like he did in the first.

Weid in for M Brown

B Brown in for Spargo/Jordon 

Spargo was very poor today but he’s been good most games so I think he catches a break. Not the worst game from Jordon but just trying to work out how everyone fits in!

I really doubt that May will be ready to go, seemed pretty banged up on TV. The AFL site has listed Petty as injured in the statistics, is there any truth to that? He had a pretty poor first half but came into the game well in the second half.

Jackson, it is said, is also good when it is below the knees (plays like a mid). 

Fritta is not a classic tall, has some speed and gives good tackling efforts.

Tom's endurance means he can move up and down the field. 

The talls are Ben, Weids and Gawn.

I didn't see the VFL game. 

So thanks for that.  Didn't he do well the week before in the practice match and Weid not as well?

Also heard he played up the ground, which is not his optimal position. Could have been getting run distance into his legs.

If not ready then it must be Weids. Not both, as the instability may cause some compromise in the cohesion. One this week then one the next.

I think Fritsch & Melk are vying for the same position & Fritsch wins that one...

Melk doesn't do enough these days to give the team coverage that Jordon & ANB do.

M Brown might be the unlucky one but I can see us going in unchanged.

Yeah I don’t think too many people actually watched him play. It was a great first game back in the 2nds. But he needs at least one more.

If we go in unchanged, we are kidding ourselves. Our connection up forward today was non existent for 3/4. I was there live and could see it and having watched the replay, my thoughts were confirmed by the commentary team. Richmond have fair more accomplished tall backs, who will eat Mitch Brown alive. Whether it’s BBB or Weed, I don’t mind, but when you’ve got quality key forwards at your disposal, who have found form, you don’t leave them in the reserves.

We played luxury footy early, our mids in particular dropped back into some old habits & it didn't help our forwards.

No May also cost us some drive from the back half...

...and the Hawks made it a scrap but we eventually burned them off.

Having said that, I think you are probably right. On todays game (VFL & AFL) Weid probably gets the nod over Brown.

Surely only one of Weid / BBB come in at a time - sounds like Weid is ready so Mitch Brown will have to make way.  

May and Fritsch would come straight back but I don't think either would be ready.

Jones deserves the 300 but can't see him staying in the team for much longer - Harmes, Bedford, Chandler, Sparrow all offer more.  It might even be a case of TMac moving to the wing and Brayshaw filling Jones' role.

Interesting. I haven’t seen Bedford this year but he would have to be twice as good as last year to displace Spargo or Jordon because he was miles off AFL standard. That said, if he has improved enough, I look forward to seeing it.

Would agree with you on Bedford but really stepped it up a notch today in the VFL game...if he can put a few more like that together he may have a future.

ok, Weid had a day out today, but from all reports did not get near it last week.  I dont see how he has enough runs or consistency on the board to merit selection over a coleman medalist playing against the men of Richmond.  No one would suggest he is the better player or have more upside. If both are fully fit, he cant be picked first imo.
