As much as I despise Essendon they have been shafted badly by the umpires.

Agreed on both counts. Pains me to admit it but they got reamed.

That was my first look at the scum this season. They won’t be an easy 4 points.

So we will have another week of sydney being put on a pedastool by the media. Them and Carlton are the worst offenders.

So sad to see the bombers lose by 3 points and get shafted by the umps.

IT IS SO SWEET!!

Case in point.

It does not get any more obvious and all 3 umps would have seen it clearly and decided to ignore the rule book. Expecting a response from the AFL on that one.

Bloody average game, poor umpiring but great result.

Not a great result really, if we are a serious threat and the jury is out, we want the top sides losing.

Easy to forget we are watching an all-time great in Buddy Franklin. Will kick a 1000 goals in an era when it should not be possible. And to add to that, he seems like a nice, down to earth guy

how he never won a Brownlow is a disgrace. Best player of the past 20 years imo

Result suits us.  Bombers always as losers is good.  Swans are March premiers.  Swans will be media darlings this week and we can just go about our business of banking another 4 points...

hear what you are saying but if we are worrying about Sydney's results in our potential tilt, then we are in trouble.  We just keep winning and the ladder looks after itself

the ladder has never been Melbourne's friend.

In almost every year that we have made finals we have relied on results of other games to get us just that little higher

It's part of the MFC curse

Looks like Essendon aren’t going to be as bad as people thought they might be, it’s the best part of this time of year because you’re still finding out how good/bad a team really is. Case in point is us where we have won the first 3 but we’re still really waiting to see where we sit in the actual rankings.

Credit to Sydney for managing to rebuild so quickly without having too long down the bottom. I know there’s a degree of enjoyment with seeing certain teams get shafted by the umps, but ultimately you just want a level contest that is purely decided on which team is better on the day/night.

To be honest though, I didn't think the contest tonight was all that fair

That makes no sense. A serious threat beats good teams. If we need others to lose to fall in, we’re no threat at all.

  • POSTGAME: Essendon

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
