Yeah I know that Pickett, but Spargo wasn't playing the Caleb Daniel role as it was suggested.

Are Teams other than us told that the scoreboard doesn't matter and they play a role for the whole game, and that is what they would be assessed on after that game?

I'd say about 17 other teams. Though your wording is a bit incomplete.  I expect players in all 18 teams are told the scoreboard doesn't matter for you, the individual player - if you and your mates all play your roles the scoreboard will take care of itself.  If you don't play your role you will be assessed poorly.

LOL this is just complete rubbish.

in the first qtr i saw Sparrow, Jordon, ANB, Jones, Chandler and Spargo lined up as a direct opponent on Daniel at various times. the players rotate through the forward half these days, hardly no one lines up on a direct opponent for a whole qtr anymore. and even though players start lined up on each other from a centre bounce situation that doesn't mean much anyway, from there its all about keeping the structures and how you want to play instead.

the biggest problem we had with Daniel was our mids just couldn't get their hands on the ball enough to move it forward, so Daniel just did as he pleased instead of defending. i only saw Spargo on Daniel twice that first qtr and one was from a kick out and Spargo burnt him for pace running back inside the F50 but didn't get used.

if you were 'watching closely' i suggest you need to go to spec savers. seems your hatred of Spargo is making you blind.

Where? Can you point me to a link regarding any of the information leading up to the match that it was played at Casey on a Friday night?

I'll wait with interest.

So Dazzle, the part of my post you highlighted was related to people posting in the thread after others in the thread had already stated it was being played at CASEY. I understand that certain people on this site have particular opinion of who and and what I am. Occasionally they should take a breath and understand what I'm saying before making a judgement simply because it's me posting. Regardless, I'll try and point out what I was talking about before moving on to what you were really asking. DD36 posted a Box Hill tweet Friday 8:21 pm stating First blood in the second half to the "hosts". An hour before that the Casey Tweet had reported this

Sorry to throw rjay under the bus but around 8: 33 this was posted in reply to Matt Demon

"Same, if it's at City Oval in Box Hill. I was just around the corner from there around 7pm". In rjays defence, you don't know what you don't know. Matt Demon put rjay straight informing them it was at Casey.

Next morning around 1130 a poster replies to Binman and says "And, on top of all that, I've been following the Training Reports and all the news and gossip and live within 300 metres of the Box Hill Ground. Had I known I would have dragged my three week old new right knee along and found a comfy chair and watched it."  I know, I know, I'm just too harsh a critic.

Now for what you were really focused on but didn't understand in my post or just honed in on what you thought you could attack and ignored the rest.

Goody mentioned the game in his presser after the Dogs game but didn't specify Friday just later in the week. Pretty sure I read something in the little paper and then there was some discussion in a private Demons Facebook group I'm involved with. Sorry can't be more helpful. In any case I agree with you it wasn't posted on the MFC site and I've explained my thinking on that. In a perfect world everything should appear in one place example the Calendar on the website. The Upcoming Event list here use to be good for that but now only seems to be full of Birthdays. Perhaps you could PM Demonland and ask him to use his contacts at the Club to get more info added to the calendar.

Failing that perhaps stamp your foot a little harder.

All fair and good points mate.

I just personally wish the club had actually advertised something on the MFC website as well. Not everyone has a twitter account.

Their is a disconnection right now between the footy club and supporters. Our on field right now is poor, at least get the off field stuff right.

I understand and it's not ideal but if you watch and look closely at the banter with Ben Gibson he is right under the pump and is trying to be the everywhere man at the moment. I think that's indicative of how under resourced that part of the Club has become. Sorry but I'm on the "just focus on the on field stuff" side of this at the moment. Get that right and the rest won't matter.

Further to that; a lot of focus/ resources is going into the Woman's side at the moment and I think that's the right way to go but in a Covid world that's got to have an impact.

I take your point but I also look at 2019 and 2020 we didn’t make finals but we never struggled to get the ball inside our 50m zone. We nearly always won the I50 count but our forward conversion ratio was appalling. The midfield is not our greatest problem. Our backline is pretty settled but I say again our forward line is dysfunctional, underperforming, you name it. We have 2 or 3 big forwards out for the first few matches, how do we make our forward line work early? I say get Tracc forward more often than not, to give us more scoring power. The midfield will improve thru Oliver, Brayshaw and then Viney in 2 weeks.

I'm certainly not pointing the finger at Ben. I appreciate his work last year during the covid period and thinks we as a supporter base are lucky to have him. He won me right over with his interview with Josh Mahoneh when he went hard at him. I will also say that he needs to ditch the Gus and Gawny podcast. It's evident to the eye that he gets bullied from both boys with Gus being the most vocal around this. It's actually a disgrace to watch considering Gus has has already experienced mental health dating spud Frawleys daughter. Both Max and Gus need to pull their heads in big time.

I'm not in the camp that's it's all just up to Ben. In a big organization that requires a lot of media attention Ben cannot simply be the one that's been left in this department.  Wasn't there another young blond girl that was involved last year as well during covid?

I'm with you about the Gus and Gawny show: its underlying theme is a kind of 'matey' male aggro based on put downs which I don't relate to.

I think it's just banter and I'm pretty sure Ben gives as good as he gets except he can't say a lot of it in public. I wasn't suggesting it was up to Ben, I was just pointing out he seems to not have a lot of assistance at the moment.

Funny, but I was listening to some clips of that Amazon Prime thing they've been plugging lately where they followed different people in football last season.

It's probably good viewing but one thing that really annoyed the hell out of me was the incessant need to swear by the coaches...it was pretty juvenile really. It was like I'm a real man, I'm grown up and I really mean what I say and you've really got to listen to me because I'm using the F... word. Leon Cameron and Adam Simpson were the ones I heard in the clips...

It's so embarrassing and more so because I used to do it when I was coaching...I cringed listening to this stuff. It's exactly the male agro rubbish you're talking about and I did it.

Surely a coach can express his message clearly without...listen here, you know what they f...ing think about you, they think you are f...ing weak, just look at the f...ing s... in the media...are we going to f...ing take this or are we going to f...ing do something about it.

It's really childish and pathetic...surely we they can do better.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
