Oh look ... a practice match where one team had half a dozen or so of its AFL listed players and the other team had none and the game turned out to be a bit of a mismatch. Reminds me a bit of a game played at Marvel Stadium last week.

Anyway, a premiership awaits Casey and it’s season over for Box Hill.

Yep, great idea! Let’s take the bloke who finished 3rd in the Brownlow last year out of the engine room. Ridiculous

You didn’t watch the practice match last week I presume? The forward line is dysfunctional, the midfield will improve with Oliver and Brayshaw to come in.

Far out guys. It was a VFL practice match. Settle down. Plenty of updates pointed to by the club.

Cmon nev, you know how important good communication with fans is.

Sure it was a VFL practice match. But what does that mean in this context?

Its not some random VFL practice match with some dees players running around to get some match fitness and touch (eg for Sandringham a few years back pre Casey Scorpians).

The Casey DEMONS are our reserves team. One of the three teams that make up the demons.

We made a strategic decision to not go down the Richmond path and create our own VFL team.

Instead as a club we made the call to strengthen the alignment with Casey. Casey changed their  a name (which would have caused much angst at casey), linkied the coaching, new jumper and dees song. We train there  have financialy invested in the club and have committed to the club and region.

Leaving aside the fact that this match was the last meaningful opportunity for some key players to make a case for round one selection, and that there has been reduced practice games and no training access, not letting fans know  about the game is not supportive of the Casey Demons. Our reserves team. Apparently.

And for Pete's sake how hard would a short piece on the website ahead of the game be?

Maybe as sue suggests they didn't want people there but they could still say its on and who is playing.

And send Ben Gibson down to report on it. Or the media intern they advertised for. The one they said they wouldn't pay. Another command own goal.

Jeez, good communication is 101 for businesses (which we are). A stated club goal is to build our membership base.

Sure the die-hards like us will be members but for those fans who are ambivalent about shelling out 200 plus dollars surely good communication is an important part of the value proposition?

Particularly for a club that is giving fans finals and has no home base.

Like I said if this was a one off then no big deal. But it ain't. Far from it. They had improved considerably in the 2020 preseason period but gone backwards again since.

And money is no excuse. Good comms don't need flashy, expensive videos. Just timely information through channels thst are basically free, other than staff time.

I hardly ever go to the club's website for info. Which is ridiculous. I would but it is hopeless. I come to demonland. Which is how I found out gus, kozzie and hibberd were playing and therefore some chance to play in out critical round one game.

And to learn daw might be some chance too.

And please nev. That tweet you linked, seemingly the ONLY comms about the match by the club was posted at 8.23pm.

Which presumably was after the match started. And I'm guessing after someone at the club saw or heard about the disquiet here.

And received all of 9 likes. Viral. Not.

Not everyone follows mfc twitter feed.  I

It would be simple to put something on mfc website, preferably the main page.  Failing that on the Casey page which sadly is embedded in the 'Team' tab so not easy to find.

BTW  haven't heard much from Ben Gibson lately.  Anyone know if Is he still around?

Die-hard fans need better information flows that this pathetic oversight. Perhaps the MFC do not wish to increase/maintain the passionate support and depth considerations of both Casey and the AFL team listings, and respective prognoses. Pith paw effort - and thanks for the consideration.

Not a lot of good following on twitter would have done people anyway. I found out about the game at about 10 min before it started last night when I made the effort to go to Box Hill's twitter to see if they had any info because I was free to go if it was today.

I follow both Melbourne and Casey on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram as well as Melbourne on YouTube and as we know nothing on the website or via email. Nothing from any of them until the game had already begun. In fact the earliest communication was Casey's first tweet that came with a photo showing it was already 24 minutes into the first qtr and Melbourne's only communication was a retweet of that very post an hour after that.

I understand when they withhold injury information despite how frustrating it is. But this is just crap. A simple tweet from both saying "Casey boys playing Box Hill at Casey Fields tonight. Unfortunately this will be closed to the public. Updates and a match report to follow" Would have been enough info surely. A team list would have been a bonus. But nothing at all?

As for Ben, He's around working mostly on AFLW stuff at the moment. They did release an AFLW "Before the Bounce" video last night with Libby and Ben

Spot on AW.

They have no problems promoting their fundraising stuff, like a box at the g. Get emails for that sort of stuff all the time.

Again, membership is the clubs most important revenue stream. Not bloody boxes at the g.

I though pert was supposed to be business savvy?

Perhaps they did not expect people to be so frothy about a reserves of reserves hit out played against a team with no AFL players.  It was more like a practice session (which they tell us nothing about until after if we are lucky) with some ‘match sim’ against no one of note.

im not as aggrieved as some, but a summary would be nice.  Let the real stuff commence!

That covers it perfectly Binman. I almost never go to the official website for the reasons you stated.

If not then they don't understand their fans. Which is a worry.

Even if most don't care, some obviously do and for basically no effort or cost they could have made the effort to at least post some pre game info on the club websites. I don't care about a box at the g but still get that spamming up my email

And it wasn't the reserves of the reserves. Was the best team Casey could put out.

Sooooo, comms issues aside, sounds like Gus, Kozzie, Vanders and Daws has good games, are ready and have put their hands up for round 1.
I like to hear that Kozzie is spending time in the middle, as his agility and skill can be dynamite in congested spaces.

Does Daws come in for Jackson or TMac?

Did Hibbard play full 4-quarters with intensity, and is he ready?

good signs.

Fair call.  Will you relay your concerns to the club?  Be interested in their response (or lack of it as I am hearing from many who try to contact them..)

I doubt Daws will play in the first game but without knowledge I have no idea how well his fitness held up of the course of the game.

True, but four goals while also rucking, with an afl seasoned body... he may be more ready than has been let on... it’s not like he’s had a year out of the game.

Frankly after 35 years as a member, most of which has been premium family at a high cost, I could not be more disinterested in the MFC at the moment.  Fatigued by too many false starts for anyone as a football supporter.

so far this year there has been sweet little to get enthused about and for the first time in 35 years I won’t  make a decision on membership until after the first 3 games.  I have had a gutful of the over promising and undelivering.

That's a fair question.

I have previously (a few years back). Will consider doing so again.

And, on top of all that, I've been following the Training Reports and all the news and gossip and live within 300 metres of the Box Hill Ground. Had I known I would have dragged my three week old new right knee along and found a comfy chair and watched it.

I don't even have a twitter account, but it's not that much harder to go to the MFC's twitter than it is to go to their website.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started.
