i am unashamedly not an ANB fan, i think he's just billy stretch with a tank. personally i'd be picking laurie or bedford as the 7th and definitely one of them if pickett misses too. or chandler. these guys were recruited to play small pressure forward so lets give them a chance to show it

If we can come up with a workable, competitive midfield sans Tracca (from Viney, Gus, Harmes, AVB, Jones, Hunt, Melks, Salem, Langdon) then he is my nomination for a FF type role.

I wonder if there is a defender in the league who can match up with Tracca one out  His marking, one touch ground play, reading of the game, footy smarts and ability to kick long goals and bring others into the game can make him unmatchable,  Worth a try.

TMac to play a mobile CHF role around the 50m arc. Fritsch, Kozzie, Spargo busy bees around Tracca and TMac. LJ and Max to provide mismatches. Good imaginative coaching is a must.

Well, that is madness. Recruit a discarded player to play a key role round one. A massive step backwards. it is called leading with your chin if you are saying he is a certsainty for round one. McDonald Jackson Brown are all ahead of Majak unless we plan to play four talls and fritta who plays tall.

You forgot Sparrow and Jordan plus any of the newbies Laurie Bowey or Rosman..

Any if them are all candidates for early season selection  if their form and consistency arevipbtibscrstch.

I can't see Mitch or Daw getting a game early. I still think Melksham is best 22. McDonald and Jackson are the talls Fritsch as the 3rd tall Spargo and Pickett as the small forwards and Neal-Bullen on the bench. They will go taller when Weideman and Ben Brown get back into the side.

As a player who could have been delisted or traded I feel that Hunt has become important. As a lead up forward he had pace to take a mark and also pace to run back toward goal and break the line.This season he would be imoortant down back because of the new man the mark rule 

Having said that he will probably struggle for a spot

I hope T Mac has had a miraculous pre season Werridee coz if he plays like last year we will be in serious trouble.

I hope you're right. despite early success he was tried for a decent period at half back and we had to move him due to poor disposal. I can't see that magically changing. But like Tmac he is a poor field kick but a decent kick for goal though.

Dangerfield, De Goey and Dusty have all played full forward for long stretches and they have better aerial games and can kick on their left and still don’t dominate all that often. It’s really really hard to.

With longer quarters I expect Petracca to play more forward this year but he’ll still be a midfielder more than a forward.

Yep he’s so powerful he can often get on to his right but he could do with a solid left foot snap. Especially in finals type pressure

Hunt was a proven multiple goal kicker last year. He has to get a solid run in the forward pocket.

Trac is explosive out of the middle and should only rest in fwd line - similar to Dusty. 

Fritta had plenty of chances and in my opinion is a solid 3rd tall - has the traits of a Gunston like player. He gets in damaging areas just needs to finish off to become an elite forward in the comp. 

TMac has a point to prove. I'd give him a chance. 

Havent seen anything about Petty that would have me put him in the starting 22. You cannot go by what we saw a few years ago. So i personally would not take a chance yet..needs to perform in VFL first.

Mitch had a few good games last year when given a chance. Form and Practice match performance will dictate his selection. 

Putting aside Kozzie's family tragedy, he still has a lot to live up to. He wasnt by any means a standout player last year. He needs to improve. 

So with our current stocks i think we would go:

Hunt, TMac / Brown, Spargo/Kozzie

Fritta, Majak / Jackson, Milkshake/VBerg

The dual listed spots will be determined through practice match performance and general form. I think only Hunt and Fritta are walk-in starting forwards.

There’s nothing proven about Hunt as a goal kicker. He’s about a goal a game and occasionally bobs up for multiples. 
 

His 4 goals in round 18. At least the first and possibly the second came from the wing. And all 4 came from running in to space. 

I like that we’ve sent him back to half back and will get him to do what he does best which is run.

Still dont know whether Hunty is the real deal Was so pleased about his 4 goals and he generally kicks straight as well.

He is not a set up start in the forward line like Fritta but could well be in the 22.

The forward line IMO in Round1 should be :

Fritta  Tmac Spargo 

Kossie M.Brown Jacko 

with maybe Hunt and Laurie (or Bowey )ahead of ANB as interchange.

Others to spend Time "resting " are Trac Harmes Viney Gus and Clarry maybe even Gawny for a very short change up.
