MFC Selection are nearly always "Safe" we choose players who MIGHT play well and hardly ever go for a bold, gutsy move. I dont think Majak is unfit either and if he juust happens to get a sniff early , and stretch the Dockers defence then well worth the gamble, Very well worth it IMO. Which means they probably won't go for it because we are a safe, non risk taking club. I'd pick DAW and Mc Donald and Jackson and really put the cat among the pigeons. JUST DO IT!

Goody has to take chances to get us winning.  If he plays it safe and continues to pick McDonald, Jones, Vandeberg and the like his coaching career will be over by round 10

I wonder if the posters advocating playing Majak Daw on the strength of his performance in a VFL practice match are the same ones that said we should draft Kobe Farmer because his dad was really good.

3 goals in 4 games last year and that was with at least a decent preseason. 43 goals in 54 games too. Even if some of them were down back.

He has a few weeks training and kicks goals against a Box Hill line up with 0 AFL players and he’s the answer?

That doesn’t seem rational.

And maybe he is the answer? But if the fitness staff think playing him too much too early might risk injury as well then where does that leave us and him?

If the coaches want to make a bold move up forward and Tom McDonald isn’t the answer then play Petty.

Majak in his 2 quarters might actually put on some scoreboard pressure. Something which Tom is highly unlikely to do, sadly.

We just don't do this. Our pigeons are constantly upset by other coaches' cats.

petty took about 8 intercept marks a game in the ressies, we can't afford to joel smith him and constantly switch him from end to end. let him perfect his defensive craft and positioning and i have no doubt he'll be a regular starter by mid season. offers more than tomlinson for sure, only a matter of time

He's a great mark, but has to work on lots of the rest of his defending. The best thing for his development is sustained footy at one end I agree, but we can probably get by with Tomlinson short term and if the teams needs are for someone to do the job at CHF he has to be considered. It's hopefully only a month until Brown is back

you've done ur research, mcdonald played a good game on the weekend or at least a good half so i gave him votes yes but i don't think it is sustainable or he deserves his spot once we have all our options available but time will tell and that opinion is allowed to change and i still hope he performs over the next month ofc as it benefits our side.

my predicition would be that the club gives him a new one year deal that flattens out next years 700k salary into 2023 to more like 400k/yr  (500/300ish split) but with that extra year security that maybe he wouldn't have been offered otherwise and then he can be satisfied as a 1 club player and become our depth tall instead of mbrown/majak for the next couple of years and we have more immediate coin to play with in next seasons budget. thats how i think the club will play it

If TMac keeps playing like he did on the weekend he’ll keep playing seniors and be paid according to what is negotiated.
He’s a quality player and person. The weekends form puts him in front of Mitch Brown, Petty, Weideman and Ben Brown, all of whom have shown less than 2018 McDonald. As for Daw, he’s a below all of them and will be extremely lucky to ever get a game in the ones.

I agree - although I think part of the reason TMac played so well was that his contested marks were from kicks not directed at him - they were to Max and Jackson and he was able to take a running jump at them.  If we are expecting him to be the sole get out kick up option in the forwardline then I don't think he is capable.  Having said that other than Gawn and Weiderman at his best, I'm not sure if anyone on our list can do this.

It will be very interesting to see what happens when Brown and Weiderman are fit.  Given he trained as a winger over summer and we don't have the other wing position filled, will he go back there?

Re Would love to see Daw make it but agree he's a long way down the pecking order at the moment.  Kicking big bags of goals in one sided matches are probably not a great indication of how he's tracking - but if he keeps up that level against good opposition then he still might be given a go.

If fit, this guy is in the best 26 footballers, and best eight backmen, in the club. He’s consistently been named in Casey’s best recently. Amazing he wasn’t bought in to replace Salem. He’s certainly better than three blokes we put in the field yesterday. Yesterday’s game was, at least partly, lost at the selection table.

No he isn't, he is backup for the ruck and that is all.

I agree QB. I wrote almost two weeks ago about the need to give Majak some game time now-even if only as a cover for an injury and to have game time under his belt if this were to occur.. He needs the be working with our best 22 under match conditions.

We also need some unpredictability as the Opposition are working us out and preparing thoughtfully against us.

Run him off the bench is we r not yet confident in him but we have tired players and need something different-at least to see if he can offer us something.

FWIW, I think we have a glaring hole in our depth. Since Tomlinson went down, we have relied on Petty and he does not seem to be a champion – to be honest, if he comes up against the class player, he will be destroyed. And the named key defenders in the Casey team were both Casey-listed players. I believe we need Daw, just for that depth in case we have another injury in the backline.
