    Mostly off his athleticism and potential I’d guess. 10 years on AFL list of a mostly struggling club. Averaged 5 games a season

    not hostile to the idea at all, think its quite a good experiement and could provide much needed cover atm. 

    oscar would feel very stiffed though, didnt think we should of got rid of him (even if he was resident demonland whipping boy). 

    heard that oscar was training at carlton, does anyone know if he got a spot?

    Why is depth 'dreaded' exactly? This is how a list works. You don't have 40+ A graders, it's just not possible. Clearly with our list situation, not just this year, but with our forthcoming OOC players there's a big picture to look at. Daw isn't even on our list yet, he's just been given a chance to show some form that might grant him a rookie spot.

    Even if he manages a spot it's probably unlikely he'll play AFL level, but with Brown and Weid out, Jackson still a youngster, Petty coming off no preseason, our main insurance ruck gone, McDonald a gamble at best, Tomlinson not a forward, Lever and May both with recent injury history, OMac gone etc etc it makes sens to me to be looking at a mature swingman as very very cheap insurance.

    Because there's a whole glut of above-average rucks just sitting round waiting for the phone to ring.

    Of course he's average. Average is fine, and he's at least as good/better ruck alternative than anyone else we have.

    I’m not sure what to make of this. My recollection of Daw’s form on comeback was that he struggled. This is virtually a second lifeline and he has also had personal issues in his life of late. Things won’t be easy for him given the physical and mental barriers he has to overcome. It’s almost a flashback to last year and Harley Bennell but at least the club is thinking outside the square. 

     

    There was a game last year where he looked quite good getting to contests etc can't remember who it was against possibly Essendon? Eddie was commentating and was talking him up the whole game.

    I think you might be overestimating out KPD depth.

    MAY: good run with injuries in 2020, horrid in 2019.
    LEVER: Two knee reconstructions.
    SMITH: Serious groin/OP and shoulder injuries. (Yet to play a great game at senior level.)
    PETTY: Zero games in 2020 and limited preseason.
    TOMLINSON: Can play down back, but wouldn’t want to see him in a stopping role if May was injured.

    We have next to no flexibility with someone like McDonald due to injuries to Weideman and Brown.

    We have good key position stocks down back if they are all fit and firing.  However, they all have their history of significant injuries and when a couple of them are out, the shelves look pretty bare.

    Is he actually injury prone? I thought he largely missed time due to his broken pelvis/hip after jumping from the bridge. Does he have a history of other injuries that kept him out of footy?

    The fact Smith is 3rd on the list proves your point.

    I guess in essence I’d prefer to not take a bloke who has proven over 11 seasons not capable of playing AFL standard footy. I’d take a punt if someone else.

    You could be right. Maybe this is what they are thinking. I’d have Tomo as a lock on the backline with May and lever with petty and smith as back up. And you live with just two with hibbo and rivers

    Mate, I get where you're coming from, I don't think anyone is legitimately excited by the prospect, but I don't know how else to put it to you other than that's just the complexities for balancing a list IMO.

    He's clearly 'capable' of playing AFL footy given he's played 11 seasons. Not that I think there's a high chance of him being called upon often should he get a list spot though.

    Majak if needed could be used on some tall  opposition with experience  Has played some good games and kicked multiple goals where his best was 6 goals against the Bulldogs and 4  goals in an Elimination final against Adelaide 2016.  Mind you he has finals experience.

    In a game against the Dees  in 2017 he had 18 HO and 7 tackles rucking against Max so he is no slouch  and he is  good insurance to have,  Dees lost that game by 4 points and  Majak played a part in the win.  Played 18 games in 2018.and 2019 of course  had personal issues however l believe he is worth the risk .

    How did he look physically mate? Doing a pre season for North Heidelberg is stark different to AFL. 

    Makes you wonder how much catching he needs to do in terms of AFL fitness.

    I like it. Now Weideman and Brown are injured we need  mature key position player backup. Bonus is he can play either end or ruck.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
