When: Saturday 30th January

Time: 2.10pm (AEST)

Where: Metricon Stadium

Weather: 28°, scattered showers, lightish breeze

https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/853720/three-debutants-confirmed-for-round-1

(With apologies to Megs who posted the same article in another thread)

It will be great to watch the 3 debutants running around this weekend. Bannon from all reports is a good mark but is also lightning quick for a 177cm tall. Was somewhat of a slider to overall 5th pick. Eliza McNamara is very small and light whilst Fitzsimon has been easily Gippsland’s best NAB player.
Full team to be posted on Friday
I’m very  much looking forward to seeing the red and blue jumper running around again this weekend.

Good luck to the girls,

my memory is vague these days, but I can remember the Cheer Squad girls playing against other CSG. That would have been about 1969 or 70. Only ever played against maybe 4 other girls sides.   Times have moved on and just as well !

Good Luck again,   Go Dees,    hope you all have a game to remember.

I'm looking forward to see whether the team has improved some of its connection issues from last year. There is no questioning the ball winning ability of the team and they generally create plenty of scoring opportunities, but the forward line setup rarely worked last year.

The younger players are so much more advanced than most of the older players were at the same stage. It was crucial that we added some serious young talent in the last draft, and it will be a lot of fun watching these players develop over the next few years.

With 8 of 14 teams playing finals, every team would be expecting to play finals each week. This group should be looking to finish 4th - 6th, all things being equal regarding injuries and fixturing, so winning the first two games is essential.

Agree. Tegan Cunningham has been a warrior over the journey but she was poor last year. She just couldn't take any marks. I doubt she’ll go around again next year.

I think its time for Eden Zanker to step up and become the imposing forward we need her to be. She’s powerful and got the talent but needs to start showing it consistently.

Can't believe Harriet Cordner left us to play at richmond.

anyway looking forward to seeing how they go and lets hope we get a full season in this year.

Ugh just watched the Collingwood/Carlton game. To early on in the year to hear that theme song and see the pies win.

The strongest  team available has been selected.

No Maddi Gay or Meg Downie, they will be a loss but we have added some run with the three newbies McNamara, Bannan and Fitzsimon and it’s great to see Shelley Heath in the side.

Love Goldie, the girls love her too and walk taller when she’s out there.

Expecting our team to perform really well tomorrow but as we’ve never played the Suns there is the unknown.  Expecting Hanks, Zanker and L Pearce to dominate and hopefully our connection and conversion will win the day.

Can’t wait until 3:10 tomorrow.  Go Dees.

Yeah surprised Cordner left, but I guess its more opportunity, maybe she wasn't going to be a regular with us?

Looking forward to seeing our first game of the year, the first two games shows a steady rising in the standard expected.

Am up here on the Gold Coast and what a wonderful surprise - the Demons are playing their first game of the season virtually on the doorstep. Despite the attraction of the beach on what’s looming as a better day weatherwise than Melbourne yesterday, I will be on hand to watch the game and if she who must be obeyed permits, put together a match report afterwards.

I could be a bit rusty because the last game I attended before this was a men’s practice match at Arden Street back in February 2020.

Taking my 5 year old girl along to her first alfw game today.

Secretly hoping her watching the demon girls strut their stuff makes her want to start playing...

Great to have footy back!

Just said on the pre-game commentary that the team flew up this morning at 7.30am. Hardly ideal. Hopefully no sluggishness once the game gets underway.

Strong mark in front to Perkins puts the Suns up by 7 points at the first break.

New Season and same old MFC conceding a goal on the siren.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
