TRAINING: Monday 11th January 2021

I appreciate the pics, even if we don’t have the reports of intrepid d’landers to know how the boys are going.  It would be great to know some info on style changes, positional shifts, rehab group, how fringe guys are doing. I would also love to hear how the coaches are doing.

but alas, all remains behind locked fences for now....

Nah, it's just that from the training reports all I want is reports on Bowie, Laurie, Jackson, Pickett, Weideman, Petty, Rosman, and Rivers. As these are our future and really the only players that really matter whilst Goodwin is coaching. I'd love to see more photos and reports of these guys.

I can understand this viewpoint. I would add Ben Brown and Tom Mc as Ben looked quite lame last year under Rhyse Shaw whom I suspect insisted BBB play while injured. He is still pretty bandaged and I dont know if he is fit to play. We got him cheap which should be a flag and to me he is still unknown as is Tom McDonald.I think that our season will largely depend on these two players. I dont have particular excitement for this season yet.

Not having anyone at training is both a boon and a hindrance. It is not possible to post negative reports easily as the blowback is hard and fast. Only positive ones get good reviews. I dont blame anyone as we all want good reports. This leads me and others into false hope each and every pre-season.

The boon is that like Dr D, I think that many players are at their peak (or past it) and I just dont expect improvements from most of our top 18 that are over 23 years old. Injuries though will reshuffle the cards.

I hope the best players for each position are chosen and "faith" or "trying out" are shown the door. These are Goodys faults IMV and Yze and Choco hopefully will be tougher with Simons selection. For example if Mitch Brown looks better than Weid, Tom or BBB I hope he is picked as the full forward. If Nibbler looks like he kicks goals in the FP I hope he is picked ahead of Kozzie, and so on. These are not my best 22 but examples of tough selection.

There's clear value to me in the training reports particularly for example:

  • Who's in the rehab group - Brayshaw and Oliver both had off season operations - what's their status?
  • Who is training with which area backs, mids, fwds - e.g. Harmes, Petty, Melksham, TMac?
  • Who of the young players looks to have had a big off-season and could therefore be capable of significant improvement
  • Who of the recruits is showing something in match simulation and may press for a game - we haven't been shy to select 1st year players in the past

I think with all training being behind closed doors and at Casey that training reports will be hard to come by.

Yes, it's a real pity as it's the training reports at this time of year that keep us all enthusiastic for the season ahead...

To be fair the 'young bloke' has done a more than competent job with the stills from today's training session. Some very well taken and creative image making is on display.

Agree, but let us hope that in the coming weeks before the silly trial-out matches and the season proper, we get a whole lot more out of the media department to keep us aware, alert and addicted to the possibilities (we all see) in the year ahead.

Even if he is raw, I'd love to see him get a shot opposite Langdon this year.

His size and running power could create some serious headaches

The fella Rosman is generating a good deal of interest and encouragement. We may have a winner in the starting blocks with him and if he has some areas for improvement, I am sure that Yze and Choco will help increase his potentials.

I'm still trying to find out which days are training days/times.  I rang the club yesterday and reached a 'call forward' number and left a message for a return call.

If anyone has any info on which days/times are training it would be appreciated and I will go along to a few.

Between you and Dr D the Club may as well close down. Such negative posts without even commenting upon the new Coaches potential for influence on all players skills etc improvement plus the all important game plan oh and the players Marking time!

"only the young ones " DrD says as if Sparrow Jordan BBB and our stars and potential A and B graders From last year are sitting playing play station in the new gym inside the Magnificent new facilities.

Finding it hard to motivate yourself guys then why not look at it half glass full instead of empty ??

If our stars perform up to 2020 and everyone else in between them and the youngsters goes up 10% plus the younguns take on 20 % natural improvement with our new Coaches I would place us in Finals contention with a bullet if no serious injuries.

Of course there is always the chance of the false dawn again  but I believe when you look for the positives they are fair dinkum screaming at your face in both natural ability and development.

Can't wait to see the new Tommy Mac and even Joel Smith's footy awareness which if improved will add immeasurably to his considerable natural flair. About 25 Players hold our future in their hands and the more they improve the better our stars and match winners will be.

Bring on those silly practice matches and serious match practice at training for us to see the effort and dedication that's going into our season from all in the Footy Department and players.

A day at the G Is just what we all want to saviour With the fruits of the last 6/7 years hard build up come together in a wave of a Team performance That looks switched on and purposeful about it's destiny and journey in 2021.

Fraser is leaving no stone unturned to give his chance of early Success being in the AFL team With a red hot go And not run around for Casey all year.

I nearly added to my original post, that its not only negative reviews of training that were met with derision. Any negative or even my even handed post gets chicken Little responses that the club should shut down. Then a long soliloquy about things we already know just to round it off. Yes we want to see Tmac's progression. But again, there may not be one. Yes a practice match will tell us more. Lots of Ra Ra doesnt add to the discussion.

Damo perhaps take a 2 month holiday in Oz and come back when the excitement MAY build up for you to get enthusiastic and motivated.

Dont ruin others hopes and dreams with negative banter and boring text.

If not a long sleep or lockdown will surely be the antidote to March madness!

All i can say is I will write some negative or IMV even handed posts without being told to go away if that's what I think. Im not going to write positive notes about training we cant get into or BBB and TMac fanfared returns as it is a hope not yet galvanised or proven. Not that I have anything else to write now but Ill think of something!

Please put me on ignore and think happy thoughts.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
