Wow.  Another rich club gets another government handout when they already have a home base.

Meanwhile we still don't have one.

And why are they calling it  the 'Daniel Andrews State Government '?  It doesnt belong to that lunatic.  Must have been part of the deal to get the funds.

I don't know why we don't control the MCG.  Football brings.in more money than cricket does.  We could change it to The MFG, have many rooms and bars to socialize in before and after games and throughout the year hold numerous fund raising events.

I think that ship sailed a long time ago.

So Tigers, Nth, dogs & cats getting millions for home base development  yet the mfc going around in circles once again ... getting left further & further ... will never win a flag

I will never understand, how our club, was established, in the 1858, and there would have been enough land for us to build a home base, at some stage of our existence, but we never have, why?

In the 50s and up until 64, we were at the top, yet still no home base.

I will always remember Travis Johnston, saying if Melbourne had, a home base like the pies back then, he said the Dee's would have won four flags, with the team we had.

So it is vital we have our very own ground, or once again we will be left behind once again.

In those days the club was a sub club of the MCC and we trained on the MCG.

At some time we started to train on (IIRC) the Scotch College Amateurs  oval which was just across the rail foot bridge.

The big mistake we made was not demanding our own training ground when we were thrown off the MCG. The reality is we probably couldn't afford the upkeep. Many of the grounds in those days were subsidised by the local councils.

I learned a new word today.

Bumboozer: A kind of large marble in children's games.

Not what came to mind when I saw bumboozer in Wiktionary but there you go.

True, i just can't understand what the club was thinking, like you said not demanding our very own ground?

Now space is tight around the G i can't see us ever getting a home ground, unless, say the Melbourne Storm, relocate, or they move the tennis to a new location.

When we started getting shuffled around between various different grounds for training the club should’ve tried to create their own base near the G or at least not far away. Possibly complaisant thinking they had something to plug the hole rather than getting a long term solution.

Pert has said a number of times there are options being discussed but nothing seems to be materialising. If he can get it done he will go down in history at the club.

The club has been unfortunate to have a succession of lousy directors and boards. No vision or drive, a very poorly run football club. Peter Jackson was the first competent CEO the club had in my memory and he had to be parachuted in by the AFL. Pert has a good track record and i believe he will deliver but until the first sod is turned and construction commences I'll have to reserve my judgment.

Sorry to say, I just do not believe there is an option near the G. pert says there is a magic plot of land or lands they are looking at and yet refuses to say where. Smoke and mirrors from the bloke who supported the idiotic proposal at Jolimont.

Only club not to have a home training base under one roof ... whilst watching multi million dollar upgrades to other Vic clubs... good question to raise at members forum.. the gap is getting wider & we are falling further  away from the competition!

Well let me address it in turn,

1 Where would I look? Well, for one I am not paid to spend my time looking and doing all the groundwork that could have been done anytime by employees of the Club tin he past 50 years.

2 Delicate matter, what a load of .....  This is not a classified military site proposal. Hawthorns new expansive premises was not a delicate matter, nor the others Clubs development such as North Melbourne in a tighly held inner city precinct. You know North Melbournes base is as close to the middle of the CBD as ours..

3. Do you really think the Club does not make an announcement on their progress to the  wider membership because of a few disgruntled, and rightly so people on here.

4. Not sure that makes sense. Ask who?

I would get into bed with Eddie and encourage the  investment, development and relocation of the Pies to Vic Park and we take Olympic Park where we should have been originally except for Joe and his idiots.

Simple plan,  ticks all boxes and is the lowest cost solution by far and satisfies the needs of two great teams going forward

Get it done and stop wasting time

Looks like we are moving to Casey this year. Could be the start of the future.

I suggest you need to get out and go down to North Melbourne and Carlton to start some research. Then on to the Bulldogs.

Isn't that a fantastic outcome for the original footy team?

The result of poor boards and presidents over a long long time

What a pathetic Joke!

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
