All of my family are in Vic, and they all mask up willingly.

Don't need it where I am as we have had zero cases for ages while the border is closed.

There was no 2nd wave in QLD, WA, SA, TAS, ACT, NSW or NT and none of them ever had mandatory masks. 

 Its a disgrace that Victorians are being forced to wear them.

None of those states had large community transmission, so it's a completely different case.

No international arrivals, i'd be happy that NO Yanks are allowed into the country for a couple of years. They should be banned from any travel outside their country..... unless going to Victoria Park..... after Phillips makes his way into a Red and Blue jumper.

Subject to national cabinet’s approval, the first Australians to receive a COVID-19 vaccine will be 1.5 million doctors, nurses, pharmacists, pathologist, aged care workers and the elderly

Mr Hunt said he had “high confidence” COVID-19 vaccinations would begin in the first quarter of next year possibly clearing the way to re-open our international borders at the end of 2021

“The evidence on the first half of 2021 is strengthening and the evidence on first quarter of 2021 is strengthening and it’s likely that new contracts would also involve first quarter delivery so you know we’re thinking March may be possible,” he said.

“The expectation is that everybody who sought vaccination would be vaccinated well within 2021”

I agree with members only plan. But allow for one guest where possible for games v interstate clubs. Need to get 25,000 as a starting number.  

Perhaps also make the Lions and Suns go into a travel bubble in 2021 and play 18 away games !?!?!?

Might be possible later in the year Bda but I struggle to see one before June and that is my most optimistic view. At the end of the day I would rather have the population protected than being able to go to a game. If I can go in 2022 I will be well pleased there is after all more to life than a game of football.  Enjoy life it goes past fast.

basil - what juristriction are you in?  

I am current;y in WA and it was a joy to be able to walk unmasked, seeing other people's faces (even the ugly ones).  Sit down for a coffee.

I feel so bd for young kids in particular, who pick up so much socially from seeing people smile, or not ... there could be a generation of psychologically / emotionally 'flat' kids.

P2J .... those, in fact most other jurisdictions  in the world, had contact tracking sorted out before our second wave appeared.

NSW learned very quickly from their Ruby Princess debacle - but at least they learned.

Sadly our tracking was archaic, and still was at least until a couple of weeks ago.

I see the re elected QLD Premier ( too hard to spell her name ) has kept the border closed to Sydney and us. I can understand us at the moment by the bar on Sydney is ridiculous.

We could easily have a bubble with AFL played in NSW and Vic for season 2021.

After the fiasco of the GF in Brisbane this year I seriously don't want it there again.

Let her keep QLD for Queenslanders there are thousands of lovely beaches between here and the Tweed River.

We live in Airlie Beach, about 2hrs north of Mackay. You probably know already but it's the Whitsunday Islands.

We had a shutdown for a while. The place was a ghost town, but it's pumping here now, even without the interstate tourists. We had heaps of international travellers here when it started, most of them on long term (1 - 2 years) working visas. Many of them are still here.

Apart from the international travel, nothing much has changed. It's awesome here.

I was just making the comment that members should get preference to non members if the numbers are restrict to say 30K at the G next year. On that same basis I don't believe I as a std member should get in before a higher priced membership. Next year it will be get what you pay for. If you want to get higher up the enter tree then pay more.

Yeh I understand what you're saying, just the AFL sort of prides itself on being "the people's game".  Some can't afford the more expensive memberships etc. Will be a balancing act for clubs/the league.

Moot point vaccine in the UK has been approved by next week, Australian government says ours won't be released until March, but surely they will be under pressure to release before then, if vaccine in UK ends the pandemic. I am very concerned regarding the forthcoming Australian Open Tennis - bringing in hundreds from overseas hotspots, putting them in Victorian run central city quarantine hotels, and allowing them to mix for training and practice seems a recipe for disaster.

IF they must have this event, surely the incoming players could be quarantined out of town at a resort with outdoor tennis courts, live in security, and decent catering, but with no contacts in central Melbourne at least until their events.

UK approving vaccine next week, why are we waiting until March,are they hoping for a Third wave so they can lock us down again. Government  don't care about saving lives they want to control us. Maybe the stalling is  the prove of this, or will give ammunition to the conspiracy theories about changing the world order. how much angry will there be if there's a Third wave in January, when the UK has solved the problem with the vaccine.

As someone currently living overseas but looking into returning home I can tell you getting into Australia is such a pain in the [censored]  the only people coming will be the competitors and minimal support staff, the only people mingling in the crowd will be people that live in Australia.

All signs point to those competitors being put in a pretty strict bubble (one that will be a lot tougher than the previous quarantine hotels), if done right the risk to Australia should be quite minimal. Don't forget there will also be the lead up tournaments (which probably won't have crowds) happening quite soon which will allow for great opportunity for the competitors/staff to be separate from the general public.

The greater risk will be from the regular quarantine hotels and whether the lesson's learned will be properly put in place. I know I'm talking with a different perspective but I find it amazing that with no community transmission Melbourne is still in such a strict place with its rules.

Compared to Europe and the US (God knows what’s on in South America and Africa) we have the virus well under control. From a priority perspective other countries are a head of us in the queue.

Given the speed of production and the lack of longitudinal studies, which are typically such an important part in confirming the safety of the vaccine, I think it’s wise to let others go first. If it’s safe to use then roll it out.

In the meantime, borders closed, iron grip on quarantined hotels and jump on any outbreak. The one big worry I have about the Oz open is I don’t know whether our contract tracing here in Victoria is up to the job.
