How do we trade for Brown? Futures?

GWS would lose that deal

I'd imagine our 2nd round pick (from Hawthorn for Frost last year IIRC) will go to landing Brown.

Preuss and future 1st may be a goer for that 2020 1st rounder.

All the GWS movement may throw a spanner in the works, but we'll have to wait and see.

Reckon you're spot on mate, 23 for Brown

and Preuss and our 2021 first round pick, for the compensation pick for Williams #9 Might need other pieces around that but that'll be the idea

Aiming to bring in Smith, Brown, McRae and Hind

Love it mate.

Most of goodwins problems stem from the fact he doesn’t really have a plan.

That’s why we make way too many selection changes and changes to our set up week to week.

why we’ve had 3 captains in 4 years

why the leadership group has changed every single year he’s been in charge

why we’re continually out coached on game day.

I agree with this somewhat, except that I think he did have a plan pre 666 and has struggled to establish a consistent, working plan with the cattle we've had since then.  Thus I don't know if he doesn't have a plan, or if he has one and is now making changes/modifications to the list to implement it.

Fwiw I had a close contact at EFC when he was there. They spoke very highly of him, suggesting that he was one of the few coaching staff who (that they ever saw) spent time reviewing and analysing games and opposition, working with technical and analytic staff to understand tactics etc.

In 2017 and 2018 we were very experimental both strategically and tactically. This matches with what I heard. Has he not been able to create a new plan? Is he still experimenting to find a new one? Or is he taling steps, but just not there yet?

We'll know in 12 months.

With Tom McDonald potentially touring GWS, i wonder even if we could package up Pruess and Tmac plus next year's first for GWS compo pick which most likely pick 9?

Future 2nd for Brown perhaps or Preuss and future 1st or 2nd for pick 9.

I don't wholly disagree with you here, OD, just that there's certainly evidence that Goodwin does listen to some extent, hence the changing of systems mid year a couple of times now, and other tweaks in season to certain areas of the back plan (the Diamond Defence, the no wingers, the two off the back of the square).

None of us can be completely sure, but I reckon we can point to more evidence that he's open to listening given how much we experiment. He can't possibly be behind all the ideas. It's a consultative process.

I think he does need strong leaders around him that challenge him though. Hopefully Pert, Yze and more to come, will do this.

Yes lets all wait for 2022 to find out right? Does he need all the support we have provided He is on his 3rd mentor soon to be his 4th

Seems to me he is not ready to senior coach or he never will be. Its difficult to work out the clubs coaching strategy. All I know is  I agree with Old Dee we are miles off competing for a grand final

There’s no way we’re getting pick 9 from GWS, first rounders aren’t used in trades for fringe players, no matter how many fringe players and later picks you throw in.

what you're talking about though is a 2021 first, for a 2020 first, and 2 players they've identified and shown interest with as steak knives. it's a good deal for the Giants.

if we have the same finish next year, they get pick 9 back, and Preuss and McDonald for nothing. if we improve slightly it's 2 players they want, for shuffling the pick back 2-3 spots.

Thread should be on Trade and Draft board.

Do the Giants have academy players at the top end of the draft this year? Are they going to want picks or points?

My post was referring to the posters who are suggesting Preuss and pick 23 for GWS’ pick 9 or Preuss and TMac for pick 9. Ain’t gonna happen.

Oh right! sorry ET! didn't read it properly. yes you're absolutely correct. we're not getting near pick 9 unless we offer up our 2021 first round pick.

My post was Tmac, Pruess and next years first round pick for this years GWS first round pick compo from the Williams trade, which could potentially be 9.

Hypothetical what happens if in the middle of the grand final there is the predicted thunderstorm and lightning. Precedent from before is the players come off and seek shelter till the storm passes and it is safe to proceed.

Whilst Preuss and 23 for 9, or Preuss and TMac for 9 might not work, adding in our 2021 first rounder tips it the other way. I know we may want to ship TMac off, but this is too much out for not enough back.

I'm happy for someone to explain it to me but why would we be selling off out first round pick in a 2021 draft that's not anywhere near as compromised as this year's draft. I'm genuinely asking.

If Taylor rates someone in the draft high enough, it'd be worth it IMO.

We can figure out ways of getting back into next year's first round at the end of next year.

Agreed, he tried to make the move to get Butters in 2017, which ultimately didn't come to fruition.

Tried to move up last year when Devan Robertson was still available but missed again. Although in hindsight while I rate Robbo very highly we wouldn't have got Rivers

Admin - Told earlier in the year Mahoney is likely gone. Haven't heard anything lately though. Richardson talked about as a potential replacement for him.

Update is apparently Mahoney is more likely to stay but will change roles. Not sure how that works tbh or who will step into his role if so. Perhaps it might even be a restructure given the soft cap change? Would assume that means the review has wrapped up and changes are happening, not sure on that though. Anyone heard about progress on the review implementations?

Why would next year not be compromised. To be uncompromised we have to return to some sort of life where 90% of the " normal";things happen. I cannot see that happening in Victoria this side of a working vaccine being available. I watched two different experts today say a vaccine is unlikely before 9 - 12 months has expired. That suggests to me that there will again be few if any  games played in Victoria again let alone feeder and junior competitions played. The virus has exploded in the northern hemisphere and winter there has only started. To expect that we will sail through 2021 without another break out in NSW and or Vic. Seems very unlikely. We could easily be  playing in a bubble in WA instead of QLD in 2021.

Very perceptive Old Dee, re vaccine the trial for the one Australia is backing officially finishes stage 3 in October 2022. The trial may allow high risk people and health workers to be part of the trial. We mere mortals are looking more to 2023. You are correct that winter is dynamite and Europe, the U.K and U.S are all struggling under the weight of numbers and people get re infected. The Northern states have managed things well here this season and the hubs actually worked and allowed a season to play to its conclusion. I also believe we will get more of the same next year but don't think people want to hear that though.

Perhaps they are listening to much to Trump didn’t he say there would be a vaccine before the election ?

He changed that to before the end of the year. There's no way.

I thought this year’s draft is considered to be compromised because of various academy, father-son and the like that mean that a number of this year’s draft prospects are already locked in? The suggestion being that 2021 will be less compromised in that regard, so not Covid or vaccine related.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
