I have to agree. As I said, I didn't like him, but the highlights stand!

He could play. But he took out too many players behind the ball

I was there the day he punched Stephen Smith and Peter Giles

Never Forget it. His record is tainted, or should be

I was there on both those occasions, and can only agree... That is why my acknowledgement of his ability has cred.

I saw the Smith one. And who could forget Bruns. Today those charges may have stuck, and that would have been the end of him

Agreed,

Hard fought game but instead of the thread being about a great game a troll comments about the 2009 draft and others still wallowing in self pity chime in. Ffs get over it it's 11 years ago.

As for the game after poor first halfs Grimes, Broad and Balta all improved.  Tigers played Nankervis behind the ball in the 3rd quarter and Balta moved forward. Others are correct in the assessment of Dusty just putting his head over the ball and not looking for frees.

Standard set for us to chase

Best

Tigers -Dusty, Edwards, Short, Graham, Cotchin

Cats - Duncan, Guthrie, Stewart, Menagola

Melbourne have to get mentally tough and the way to do it ???????   A preseason with the Tigers is the answer.

1 Dees need to do an SAS preseason

2 Goodwin needs to watch and strategically spend 100 man hours working out this game

3 Tigers are completely beatable (they bleed) but clubs are too lazy to figure it out.  Watch how they get the footy to Short and Edwards to link through.  They are excellent kicks and had about 15 forward 50 entries tonight.

i would've taken Buddy before Ablett and oretty comfortably. midfielders grow on trees

How mature are the Tigers compared to our guys.

Tigers - all the players, squad coaches , support staff sing the song.

Demons - sing the song and miss 3 players including the 6’10 captain.

Footy is about IQ and making the right decisions

Yep and they waited for noah balta to finish his interview before they all walked off the field. Melbourne players are stupid

Watching yet another club dynasty 3 flags 4 years ... 56 strong & still waiting, yet another club gone past 12 flags

I'll stick with ablett thanks, he also managed to win a brownlow in a bottom side, dusty has been playing in a good side for the majority of his career

Robbie Flower was better than him.

Might have done a couple of bucket bongs out of the cup. That's the old school brissy way!

After watching that just not buying CHF as our greatest area of need.

Lynch and Riewoldt both got involved after half time, they were barely sighted in the first half. I’d say they were the two that got involved and provided the structure to steady the ship.

Geelong will rue that opportunity for a long time, they were very close to having that game sewn up in the second quarter, just squandered their shots on goal

Sure there is an exception or two, but they like each other.

I could have detailed more but refereing to Brown CHF as being our greatest need as in recruiting. Finals record 7 games, 9 goals, average of 8 disposals.

I always feel empty after a GF. Not because I'm thinking one of my passions/interests is over for 6 months and there is now a void (Because I'll do something else), but because it makes me question why I even f...ing bother with it at all, watching these Richmond gooses carrying on.

And then like clockwork, I'll be back again next year with that absurd hope that it could be our year.

Completely relate JD . . . although my emptiness is driven by the realisation, almost every year, that we are miles away from the standard required to win premierships.

And the Tigers pay the players the same $$$ in salary cap as us, and yet some here defend our recruiters and list managers. It is time full a full and uncomprimising review of how we value players.

Look at Gill’s head

It’s not well

He looked sh*thous% didn't he?

We are miles away from winning a flag...we have holes in our list witch we can never fix eg no gun forwards & our last one was Neitz who retired in 08! Can’t inc Hogan as hardly played & Tom Mac had one flukey year,  we also have culture & leadership issues which raised their ugly heads throughout the season and continue to do so.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
