Dr. Gonzo 24,467 Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 (edited) As a player he drove me nuts. Seems to have the pedigree for the board position offered to Green though, would like him to come back on board. Edited October 12, 2020 by Dr. Gonzo 1 Quote

You are not resigning in this current climate unless you have a job elsewhere, especially in the Sport as most codes are looking at cost cutting. 10 Quote

Yep, that was pretty well known at the time yeah? Wasn't it down to Pert, Mahoney and Nicholson? (might not be remembering exactly correctly) 1 Quote

Not openly available right now, but the review has just wrapped up and there's been a few rumours about Mahoney departing. I'm not saying he's coming to us or anything, just think the timing is interesting and I know some of the former Melbourne people who stay connected (with one of them helping get us Yze recently) very highly rate Nicholson. 1 1 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Will be interesting to see what comes of the revenue sharing model. If 7 are successful at pulling out of the broadcast agreement then the players could lose a huge chunk of shared revenue if they are guaranteed a percentage not a set amount. My guess is big Nicho heads to the safer waters of steady business rather than sport 2 Quote

whatwhat say what 23,808 Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 no offense to us as a club, but being footy manager would be a significant step down if anything, he'd be a logical fit to head up the aflpa 3 Quote

Diamond_Jim 12,758 Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 The ACA and CA are strange bedfellows given that many cricketers now make the bulk of their money from the IPL. That aside I am amazed about how quickly the money ran out at CA. Makes you wonder how Tennis Australia will go if limited crowds are allowed at the Australian Open Quote

If they want crowds for the Australian Open they'll have to move it to another state. This goes for the cricket on Boxing Day too. Quote

My guess is big Nicho heads to the safer waters of steady business rather than sport I'm not convinced. If you can get a job in sport it's just as secure if not more so than the wider business community. Stagnant economy for 3 years, propped up by financialisation and private debt. Most of the asset classes are near capacity as investors look for places to safeguard wealth, the RBA has done a recent report on a 40% contraction in the housing market (CBA initially predicted 30% and then back pedalled because that's the business they're in), nothing guaranteed in the next 5-10 years. A Depression is very likely in the next 2-3. It's tough times for everyone, including business. Sport will keep plugging along though, so get a job at a footy club on big money and you might be able to weather the storm. 1 Quote

The ticket revenue for Tennis Australia must be massive. Every seat in three stadiums sold for two sessions a day at an average close to $100. Add to that the hotel bookings etc etc and the overall loss to the Vic economy is enormous. As I understand it the next biggest stadiums are in Sydney and Brisbane. Perhaps a split tournament could be the way to go. With the seeding system you could have half the draw in one State and half in another and bring the finalists together. Alternatively you could split the men and the women which I don't think would be a good idea. As to the cricket a test against India in front of good crowds would be a very big TV draw card in India as it would be the only game for a year that India has played in front of crowds. Would they pay for a 25% filled MCG... who knows. Quote

I'm hopeful we'll be out and about by December, but large crowds at confined sporting events is another deal altogether. We might be right for limited capacity for early 2021 AFL season, that's about the best we can hope for. Lost my love of cricket and tennis years ago, so not fussed by either of those sports, selfishly speaking. Quote

He has risen through the ranks and negotiated a very tricky period for Cricket and their players and managed to secure great outcomes. I know he is very popular within the cricket ranks and has a great rapport with the players, ( an ex colleague works at CA) Im not sure he would be interested as its probably a step down, his progression would suggest a CEO role somewhere. Anyway, The club should do look at all aspects and consider. Quote
