Hard to not see all this and just say, heard it all before and the talk has been cheap coming out of this club for a long time. i know they have to say it, but it really washes completely over me.

It only took three posts for someone to pull out the old "talk is cheap".

What is it that you expect from him in the week after our season finished?

If so why would you read/post Demonland, media or anything?  Just watch the matches.

I expect everyone on here agrees with you - we will believe it when we see it.  But that doesn't mean we ignore everything else and discuss nothing, including the nuances of what the captain and coach say publicly.

Personally I thought Max's comments were relatively refreshing compared to what we often hear.   Do I believe it guarantees a better 2021?  Of course not.

Ultimately actions speak louder than words & they all need to look at the consistent issues of dropping games against lower placed sides as it’s cost a finals spot in both 2020 & 2017 & a top 4 spot in 2018. Whole footy dept needs to be reviewed inc coaches.

Not more BS.I really cannot stand listening anymore until they actually show that they have learned and are motivated.I will have my opinion  and  wait until they back up the talk sometime in the next 50 years. By the way I must get my nuance meter checked

i m obviously missing something.

Cheer up Kent it is only a game and the season is over there are way more important things in life. I feel we lost this season from those off the field. Yes we could do with a few better players but let’s hope we get a couple this recruiting season and some big changes to the FD.

Oh would you look at that.

A fail but not a waste.

Sure. Same with me.

But I don't think anyone reads Gawn's quotes and thinks "well that does it, we're clearly going to make finals in 2021".

What he said was refreshing and candid. Rather than whinge about "talk is cheap", let's just accept the honesty of his quotes.

No i agree and i never said that..  i feel like you are reading too much into what i said.. the footy club talks and talks and talks.. promises finals and better years and better times.. they are simply not happening.. so im just sick of hearing it, regardless of what is said.. i am just sick to death of hearing how as a club we are going to change.. and i know they have to say it, they have to portray confidence and sell hope.. but for me personally, and imagine lots of people, they are hollow words.

Also im not whingeing about it im being honest about how i feel..  anyway.. go dees.. lets hope the words come with actions next year.

Lol.. you are so predictable Hammy.. and so bitter..  If Max says it it must be true..  There are countless examples of wasted opportunities this year. The Fail not waste line is classic PR SPIN and it has sucked you in. A captain cant come out and say we wasted a year.. it would be too truthful.. the club outlined a 4 year plan that said finals every year.. they have failed and they have wasted a year of work and effort. You do know that you can be wasteful and still learn from it..

Jog on.. what are you 15 years old?. Cheer up Hammy.

Good for you Sue... its your opinion and your right to think whatever you feel is right.. and i wouldnt go looking for an argument with you... maybe you should do the same.. stick to your opinion and stop trying to put words in other peoples mouth.

Your idiotic negativity is the most predictable spouted crap on here.
Do us all a favour and shut the hell up.

Cool story champ, your refusal to respect someone else's position says more about you than me and now you have thrown the toys out of the cot..  move on, seriously.

So we are going to become a ruthless and completely new club hey.

I wonder how long that will take considering goody can’t fix our midfield to f50 connection for the last 2 seasons.

All talk again which is what we are used to from our club. I hold no hope any of this will happen while goody and co are in charge.

Well if not he is being careful about what the club wants him to say

Of course we wasted opportunities this year

Nothing wrong in saying it

Well as old Dee says there is always next year and the next and the next

I ask again if we stay with Goodwin and the game plan WHAT IS GOING TO CHANGE to make sure we don't keep repeating and wasting another year

Seriously im not, but you keep replying to my posts... anyway go Dees.

Didn't watch the B&F for this reason, obviously they have to say those things but I didn't need to hear it right now. I am happy reading what Max said and hopefully there are some changes.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
