When all is said and done, we were stitched up in Round 16 when the Bulldogs came off a bye and a long break to play the Eagles at Metricon off a 5 day break with Natanui pulling out late. They won by 2 points and their last goal just got through the score review by a fingernail. Next day, we lose to the Dockers off a 4 day break. We needed only one of those results to go the other way and we play finals.

Now we need a miracle to make the finals and get to play the Eagles in Perth.

I knew it was Gil's fault

Thank you for spelling out the details

Save money, AFL, and abolish umpires. The game couldn't possibly suffer from it

I disagree, turn it into a money spinner. Let's start celebrity umpiring, with a whole TV reality show. I mean if they refuse to be professional about umpiring, why don't they go the complete reverse? Imagine the possibilities.

Hoges playing like Weid today...

I'm imagining ...

Every week, one team randomly draws the hanging judge ... the hanging judge awards every free against that team

At half time, the team in front can replace one umpire of their choice with another umpire of their choice

Viewer poll ... vote for the next  free kick and what it is

Each captain has a free free kick they can call at any time of the match, anywhere on the field.

Umps in WCE home games and all Hawks games can mark the ball, handpass it, kick for goal as if they were players for that team (not too different from now, but here it's out in the open)

Ok so we need port to win tomorrow, then the pies have to go to perth and play west coast, west coast win and put them out of the finals. Job done.

I can't help but feel if we won another game it would be the filth sitting 9th

Now we're getting somewhere. Think of the TV ratings, more ad breaks than ever before, the revenue Gil, the revenue!

Playboy Bunnies as umpires. They have more brains than the lot we have now.

I am watching the game on CH7, can anyone tell me how many goals De Goey has kicked in his last 2 matches?

Is it just me or does Alastair Lynch gasp for air between sentences way too much? Sounds like he’s about to cark it.

Enjoy your trip to Perth Collingwood. Hope you get thrashed.

The positive for C/Wood is at least Bucks and Sando can get in a game of tennis.

I thought BT excelled himself tonight, in great form coming into finals.

I honestly didn't think he could get any worse than he has been this season.

I was obviously wrong.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
