Does Nev go to Greene 'titan'??? he's got the physical strength and game smarts, Greene is not lightning.

Surely we wouldn't play Hunt or Salem on him.

Maybe Smith but I hope not.

Presumably Jetta does. Smith might get a job on one of their three tall forwards: Finlayson, Cameron and Himmelberg. Although Tomlinson might get the third tall instead.

We are starting to get significant injuries and playing every few days doesn't help.

Some may say it is the same for all sides but it is not.

During this crowding of games each side has had a bye. The exceptions being Melbourne and Essendon.

That's because Essendon  could not field a team early in the year and the AFL should have made them forfeit the points.

Shocking team selections.

ANB and Melksham stay in after having 0 influence on the scoreboard and also defensive pressure.

Hibbered missing after ankle soreness. There was whispers before the game last week he would potentially miss due to his ankle. They play him on Walter's and he kicks 3 goals and wins them the game. We had a fit Lockhart and Jetta ready to go.

Hope we get absolutely smashed.

Well I don't want us to get smashed.

But another week of mind melting selections. Not really so much as who comes in. More from a perspective about decisions in the last two games.

Brown in this week for preuss, having done nothing wrong to be dropped and obviously much better option than preuss in the wet.

On preuss what the hell was him not doing any centre square rucking all about? Played forward for the whole game, in the wet of course struggles (in the dry he'd struggle too coz he ain't no forward) and then gets dropped for his troubles. Great man management. Not.

Jetta comes in this week when blind Freddy knew we needed a small defender against freo, wet or dry.

And on small defenders no lockhart last week or this week, suggesting he is out of favour. Except for the fact that he is an emergency this week?

Spargo gets dropped in a must win game having been average against the swans, but ok before that. Ok.

Replaced with a kid. Who does little. But he is a kid. And gets dropped for his troubles. Great man management. Not.

And like harmes, spargo comes back in after one week, having had no opportunity in the seconds to address the issues he was dropped for.

So 20 changes in four games.

And today I watch goodwin's presser and when asked about selections this week he says 'there will be some changes but we want to build some cohesion in our team.'

Hope we smash them.

I have to agree.

Sometimes the changes in isolation, week-on-week, make sense (and this week they somewhat do).

But as a broader picture, our selection has been all over the shop, indicating as many on here have said that Goodwin and the FD don't know what our best 22 is, don't know how we should be setting up or structuring our side, and play favourites with some players to the detriment/expense of others.

Ridiculous, isn’t it? This really is like moving the deck chairs on the Titanic. Just mind boggling. I hope we win, but looking at the depth and quality on their list, I think we’ll get belted, unfortunately.

Agree wholeheartedly.

spargos first season at teh club 18 games

picketts first season at the club 90% of games

bedford two years two games 5 months apart

genuinely setting him up for failure they actually dont want him to succeed at all

Outside of Lockhart missing out, which continues to be a head scratching decision, I'm not sure what else we could do in this situation.

The Preuss experiment was a silly one, and they've rectified that with Brown coming in.  It might even signal the end for Tom Mac, although with a few years left on his contract we would have to find a buyer, which could be difficult.

Spargo makes sense purely from the standpoint that Bedford isn't really up to it.

ANB and Melksham aren't popular choices, but who else do we have to replace them?  Brayshaw, Harmes, Jones, Jackson etc are all injured and we don't really have anyone else waiting in the wings.  We're stuck at the moment.

Not that I can remember.

Preuss out is good. Spargo proved he can play but hes not consistent. Welcome back Jetta.

Melksham is the new Omac. He could run over everyones dog and still get a game?

They have gone Jetta but Lockhart has been dealt with poorly imho.

1 hour ago, bing181 said:

Not really. Lockhart really ran out of puff at the back end of last year, and not hard to imagine the same thing here. Still a young player, and this is his first full season + pre-season. Not sure that Jetta is the answer, but with the injuries we have, hard to see what the choices are.

what carp

Jetts is cooked Lockart a better bet in my opinion

He has had a reasonable season so far

Goodwin has no idea

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
