A mate mentioned this potential trade today and I thought he was joking. That's a hard no.

Polec for TMac is gathering momentum apparently.

Didn't expect that, thought North had already said no, but maybe they're that keen to get rid of him.

Surely thats a no go. I know he's had an up and down season but his one prior was great and he's a far better player then TMac. They would want more for him.

I doubt its anywhere near realistic but would anyone consider a two man trade of Brown/Polec for Tmac/Brayshaw. I think Angus would be more the player they would be chasing especially with Higgins leaving, more quality inside mids.

I would love to see Polec at Melbourne. We saw how effective Langdon was on a wing with his running this year. Polec might actually be a better more rounded player. His inside 50's numbers and ability to break the game open when he's on with his pace are terrific.

Why not 2 Big Macs for Polec/Brown and both the Tom and Jarrad "over payments "cancel each other out.

Maybe an exchange of say a third rounder fir a fourth by the Clubs with North  getting the Third round would be fair to all.

I think Polec was out the door at North the minute he wore another club's jumper earlier in the year.

That was a practice game silly !!!wasnt it??

Only if they take Oscar too.

You mean the way he tackled Shuey almost around his waist before Shuey flat out cheated?

Rubbish.  His right arm makes contact at shoulder height and the only direction it's going from there when the tacklee tries to break it is upwards.

I really hope we don't go hard at Polec, he's a fine player but i am of the mind we need the right competitive attitudes as opposed skill. This may get shot down as "we have good players but their skills suck," kind of argument, but what we desperately desperately need, and i think has been our problem from a while is do anything to win players.

From his most recent form and games, even in his last year at port... i just don't see it (and my god during lockdown i've watched so much football i felt like Malcolm Mcdowell in "A Clockwork Orange"). Having said that if we do pick him up and he plays well, I'm very happy to be wrong. He just isn't a player i would chase

I don't love Polec as a  player, but he has got traits we lack, and on the face of it could be a deal we could get done without a whole lot of fuss, which would allow us to focus on any other deals we want to get done.

Would balance out our midfield mix (he would have approx 0 people in front of him in the queue for a spot on the wing opposite to Langdon) in a lower cost transaction. Let's get it done quick and move on to other areas of improvement.

Had a north supporter say to me today it will be a swap, I said only if they pay half of polars wage.
Whilst I would be against the swap, reckon Polacs wage would need to change.

I wonder what the dollars remaining on his deal are. Some likelihood given their list that there was some front end loading. Given T Mac is reportedly on a generous deal, I wouldn't be surprised if the differential between the contracts was relatively insignificant.

Think TMac is being severely overpaid as well! Reckon both are on 700k plus.

Shuey tucks the ball in his left arm rather than keeping his arms free. Turns and lowers his body so the tackler can't get around his hips (not that they'd want to, players are told to tackle pinning the arms). Polec's arm comes across the mid point of Shuey's upper arm, miles from his neck and aiming to pin his arm and lower chest. Shuey then keeps going lower whilst raising his arm and once the tackle goes high he throws his head and body back whilst Polec is left watching.

Polec should've been stronger to stop the arm lift, but this was disgraceful from Shuey. Thankfully the umpires have caught on since (after a decade of Selwood doing it) and largely stamped it out of the game.

Anyway, Polec's tackle numbers  have generally been decent. I don't think it's a huge strength or weakness of his game either way.

Why would North trade Ben Brown, only to bring in Tom McDonald?

For North it makes zero sense and they have said as much.

For us, of course, it makes more sense, especially in that Tom's wage is up there with Polec's. But I'd be super surprised if they went after Tom.

I agree Wise. Stranger things have happened though!

Unless his body is shot, they'd be better off keeping Brown. He has the runs on the board over many years. I fear Tmac will struggle to get his body right. Good luck to him, though.

If we can turn Tmac or Preuss into Polec happy days.
On the opposite wing to Langdon would make a great difference to our side.

Agree.

I can see that it makes sense from a contract stand point - while Polec would be on more money but about 200 - 250k, it would still match up okay IF North agreed to pay for some of Polec's contract and all of Tom's, which would seem a steep price to be asking.

But from a personnel stand point it has me beat.  Going from Ben Brown to Tom McDonald is a step backwards and would make them look really silly if they did.  They are better off persisting with Polec and looking to develop from within.

It comes down to this for me, would you trade him for Tom McDonald? Yes you would.

We have barely no bargaining chips in terms of draft picks, and we cannot trade future picks either as far as I know, as we already did this year.

So it will come down to a player trade, and in which case, I would take an outside runner with good skills to fill that second wing spot, and get rid of a slow lumbering tall who hasn't done anything since 1987 and is on big dollars.

Absolutely. A wage dump offset at both clubs.

I'm sure we'd be chatting to Polec and North to work out what's going on but my opinion is that he's an icing on the cake type player, and would really add to our best 22 as an attacking weapon that we really lack.

for me the only serious concern i have about pursuing him is the price tag, if North are willing to pay some of his salary and it's no more than a third round pick, i would absolutely be recruiting him.

It's poor by North though, being seen as publicly pushing guys out the door i think puts you in a position where you really have to just take what you can get.

On this i'd also be keen to have a chat to Shaun Higgins, beautiful kick and we could really use the on field leadership. it sounds like he's a long way down the path with Geelong, but potentially we could talk him into it.

Totally. I'd add Higgins to our midfield for another year with triggers for a second.

If say Tom is on $650k and Polac is on $800k, they pay $250k more and the rest is offset.

If they're looking at doing a bit of "list management" for the next 2-3 years, it makes perfect sense. Brown could win a game off his own boot. Polec would make them better.

You want your list to be a bit rubbish so you can stock up on draft picks and rebuild with top 3 talent over the course of 2-3 years.

I'd prefer we swap Tom with Polec.

Then try and land a second rounder for Preuss which is on traded to Essendon for Saad. If they need more, chuck in a future second rounder too.

It would make more sense, to me anyway, to try and get Polec and a chunk of his wages off the books.  See if you can get yourself a decent draft pick and look at developing from within.

Taking T Mac off our hands is a nothing move really.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
