I clicked on this thread fully expecting news that Josh Wagner is getting a call up for the weekend.

Can't imagine my relief right now...

Why does Smith continually get this golden ticket from our supporters?  Like that bloke that this thread is about, he's just not up to the elite standard that would see him cement a spot in the seniors.  That's not being critical - they have both achieved a bloody lot more than me, but we just need to accept it.

Put it this way; if we put both Wagners and Smith up for trade, would we get a bite?  No.  Would they get picked up as DFA?  No.

I'd actually be interested to know how many Category B rookies have gone on to having relatively successful careers on any list.

Maybe if they played him in his correct position he might just shine, not too many here are convinced he's a backman

I've never seen any evidence of physicality in Wagner's game.  To me he is a " beige" player & a long way down the pecking order.

It was awhile back, but I recall nicknaming him "The Clamp" - His tackling was his best feature, they stuck. Probably why AVB mentioned him.

I don't mind the idea @Rodney (Balls) Grinter , if he can do a lock down defensive job on a player that may be too tall for a Lochhart or a step ahead in pace now for Jetta, you'd put him in the team. Other players mentioned ahead of him are more your attacking half backs. He's too specialized unfortunately to not be depth.  I have Smith and OMac as KPD cover. Hore as Lever cover, and Wagner and Jetta as Lockhart cover.

You forgot about Brown

You might have gone a little early. If Gawn and Preuss (and Jackson) are unavailable this week, Brown might come in so that Tom McDonald can play as the ruckman with some backup from Weideman.

Blicavs. He's better than you think and has been playing well in the 2's. He just needs more football into him. I'd keep him I prefer him to Oscar.

Pop Brown in the ruck then

List of recent rookies have highlighted some (not all Cat B some are though)

In terms of only Cat B Couple names come to mind:

Mason Cox, Zach Tuohy, Conor McKenna, Mark O'Connor, Mike Pyke, and Alex Keath

There are a few diamonds in the rough. Obviously they are all not super starts but very little risk vs very high reward if it pays off

Smith YES but not Josh isn't a Lockhart replacement not fast or skilful enough fir minding smalls.

Jets possibly Harmes Salem Jordan or even Sparrow would be my choice.

These scratch   matches fir the Leftovers should be used fir experimenting nes spots similar to Tigers discovering Shai  Bolton as an onballer.

Experiments I would like to see are:

Smith to forward line

Hunt as an on baller  as his kicking is long snd direct and even Bton just explodes for distance not linking a player!

Corey Wagner as small defender

Chandler has been given run in backline maybe Bedford  also.

Its a waste of time if you are going to delist without trying a player in a different position!

I accidentally attached it 3 times then when I edited it I lost half the highlights.

In my defense your honor Flash needs no highlight to stand out. One of my all time favorites!

Would take the opinion of a player inside the four walls over the prejudice of supporters who haven’t seen him play for more than a year. An amazing thing about life is that people can improve...but nah this bloke must still be a [censored].

I'll say it again SMITH should be tried again as a forward. FWIW In that pre season game in 2019 when he did his groin he had I think 4 Goals up in as KEY Forward. I would think he would complement Weeds Really well!

I appreciate the effort you went to compiling this list, but I was after just Cat B, which you also provided.  And basically confirmed my thoughts.  Thank you.

Smith "bashing"?  Really?  Here's something for you, I'm telling you what I think.  Don't like it?  Ignore me then.  It's a forum, princess.

I don't believe Smith is a senior level footballer, and currently, it would appear that our coach doesn't either.  He gave him a fair run early parts of this season, and the guy, not surprising to some, didn't take his opportunity.  It happens.

See my comment TRY him as a forward as I don't think he will be if use as a defender snd firward play is a chance.

Shows our attention level, a Wagner thread gets quickly turned to a Smith thread, but unfortunately I really don't have an opinion either way on Wagner, he seems an honest player, and coaches usually like that sort of thing.

Let's be honest.. it was bizarre list management that Josh Wagner was kept on the list.

How he got a gig before Billy Stretch is a head scratcher.

Is that necessary?

Players that should not play another game for us -  Hunt,  J Wagner , C Wagner,  ANB, J. Smith

Players that should be played ahead of them  -   Rivers, Bedford, Jordon,  Baker, Dunkley, Chandler (and Petty but hes done for the year)

Dunno about that. I'd have ANB and Hunt in before I'd have Dunkley or Baker.

Hunt's goal kicking improved last year. I still think he can make it if he can gain the tank.

That's a bit unfair on Dunks and Sauce considering the difference in ages and experience. If the AFL reduces list sizes I would be keeping the young ones with potential upside rather than the "known" quantities.

I excluded Smith because he doesn't fit into either of the two categories.

He's been given minimal chance in an incorrect position for his playing ability and style. He's a forward half player, play him there. Once he has had the same opportunity as Hunt, ANB and both Wagners, then we can decide if he is up to it or not.

Was BOG in the first half of the practice match against the Saints last week apparently, so I wouldn't be surprised to see his name read out sometime in the next week or two.

Blood pressure coming back to normal......

Might need to have a lay down Harmesy, you've made way in the side for J.Wagner.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
