We will be playing on a cow paddock tomorrow! Might help us.

Surface looks very chopped up. Grass is a strange almost brown colour. MCG uses heat lamps to keep the grass growing in winter. I suspect they just rely on winter sun at the Showgrounds.

Commentators going on and on about the Dawk's inconsistency. Well, what do you expect when the side is packed with inconsistent b-graders that other clubs were happy to off-load?

I can't understand why Dawkthorn have escaped media scrutiny. They've treaded water for five years. They don't have one a-grader (with the possible exception of Sicily) in the club that they've bought through from drafting for 10 years. They are in deep long-term trouble IMHO.

They’re an absolute scrap-head challenge of a list. Lucky they have Clarkson.

Frosty not doing too bad tonight and plenty of niggle.  All things being equal wld much rather have Frost running around in defence than Smith or Lever at this point.

Bruce... “you sort of forget how good he was Wingard”... uhm maybe he’s just rubbish now Bruce.

Who's getting the cash down at Glenferrie Road? They are almost like us in 2012. There must be very ordinary players on good coin.

Dawks need to get a total of 25 points if they are to avoid their lowest ever score under Clarkson of 31 points (time reduction adjusted).

It does look choppy but I’d doubt the huge  stands are exactly cutting out the sun light I would have thought DJ.

Broken wrist for sure

At least they aren't showing us replay after replay of the injury.  There have been a few where they took great delight in finding the best possible close-up angle to put on super slow-mo just to make us all nauseous.

Apparently you can blatantly throw the ball now

One of the all time classics right there Uncle.  Not even a replay either.  Channel 7 always very 'AFL compliant' ?

Two shockers in a row

Pies are so well drilled. Seems like a lot of mature heads in the group and minimal cocky kids. If only that was us.

Yep. To quick for those umpires. About time they sort Treloar out. Just about throws every time in traffic.

What about those Dee rejects. Frost I would say was just OK but Frawley and Scully were next to being liabilities.

3 goals since 1st qtr. Ugh.  What a spectacle.

Good thing the AFL rushed through the Clarkson holding the ball interpretation change, has really opened up the scoring.

Clearly do not understand footy.

Frost is a better player than all of Lever, O Mac and Joel Smith but most around here can’t admit it just because he’s wearing a different jumper.

Frost was huuuuuuuuuge all night. Nine touches, zero tackles and a couple of clangers for good measure.

Agreed that he’s a much better player than Smith though.

Big night by Sicily.
I must’ve missed it?

I'll bite...

Tell me how I "clearly do not understand footy" when I think Tom Mitchell... The 2018 Brownlow medalist at 27 years old is not an A grade talent?

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
