How about you acknowledge that everyone that has been questioning his game was proved correct last night. He changed what he has been doing (which most of the critics have asked for) and it made a big difference. 2 1 Quote
Gorgoroth 13,220 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 People comparing him to Danger is a start, but he has the potential to be better than him. Danger ain’t a good kick, has good speed. Oliver has the chance to be a much better player, that was what was frustrating with his little useless handballs. He is much better than that. Last night proved it. And if him and Trac play both inside and out with Viney as a predominately inside mid then we have the makings of the best mid since Brisbane/west coast 1 Quote

Older demon 2,828 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 I think a lot can be learnt from the way Dangerfield plays in that he gets the ball and runs to clear the congestion. Clarrie gets the ball and credit to the coaches, they are asking him to run and gun with the ball rather than the quick handball off.I hope this is the next stage of his development and we see a new dynamic in our contested ball play. As noted earlier danger isn't a great kick especially set shots at goal. I wonder what Danger was like at the sane stage in his career? Quote
deelusions from afar 1,894 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 King went on and on about it last night - accelerating away from the contests. I hope it is a mindset thing that Clarry can continue to do. But I suspect it's got more to do with playing against the bottom side who didn't know how to stop him getting off the chain. 1 Quote
Willmoy1947 4,261 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 Good effort for a bloke who gets tackled five or six times a match when he hasn't got the pill... 3 Quote

Yeah, great, he can improve areas of his game, like all players can, but the guy is still putting together a very, very good season. 2 Quote

Frustrating at times? of course, not many aren't. But he is an A-Grader. 1 Quote

Imagine if he was eloquent in his interviews rather than throwing out the cliche. He would incredibly marketable and ALREADY be seen as a superstar a la Dangerfield. Alas that ain't his bag. No surfing Fairhaven in his suit for Oliver. 1 Quote

Quick comparison - Oliver on the left, Dangerfield on the right. Make of it what you will. First is comparing Oliver to Danger (who is 7 years older) for the current season and second table is at the same age. 1 1 Quote

Demon Dynasty 17,168 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 (edited) 20 hours ago, Lord Travis said: Calls to trade Clarry were ridiculous. He's been a gun inside midfielder from his first game. What some people are frustrated by is the fact he's got the attributes to become more than just an inside mid, and could be a better inside mid. He could become a more rounded midfielder and hit the scoreboard too. Last night showed that. He was driving out of stoppages instead of dinky handballs to shift pressure. He was creating more space for himself and team mates and kicking to advantage more. He got himself more involved inside forward 50 and hit the scoreboard. He could become a superstar like Dangerfield or Martin. If he continues playing that style of game LT he will be. I would show the great steps he made in this game and reinforce that game again and again. This is the promise he showed coming to reality. Rinse repeat, rinse repeat. Get the 5 top players together. Big Maxy, Tracc, Clarry, Viney and May. Show them their effort from the last 3 to 4 weeks. While there was a big gap with Port, they aren't far off beating the best on their day IF they can all bring that output together as often as possible. The rest need to lift also but if those top 5 fire more often than not and with solid support from the rest for the remainder of the season, we are headed for finals. Elegt 872 Posted August 9, 2020 Author Posted August 9, 2020 Love how he has developed a burst from the stoppage approach and looks to assess options before disposing. Makes him so much more of a damaging player Quote
