Both matches are at Metricon . They need to give all facilities a thorough clean before the next 2 teams enter the ground.

They always were at Metricon

The time of the Suns match was delayed to give them a Sunday afternoon TV game in place of ours.

TV rules..especially this season

ridiculous that they can't stream our practice match because of broadcast rights

There is no form line so far this year. Most clubs don't seem to be able to come to play week to week or even quarter to quarter, and then you have WC sooking it up about the hubs.

Let's wait for Port today who might be the only side to put in three strong performances.

Collingwood not too far off.

Everyone else has put in at least one sub-par performance. In a normal season, that would be a refreshing positive.

I think our lapse against Carlton needs to be put into this perspective.

Yes, after looking at regular upsets and clubs having good and bad quarters in a game I'm looking at the Carlton game a bit differently.

Goodness, Crows need Ricciuto to put the boots back on.

This season is mainly irrelevant for the power clubs. Their memberships are full, they get the TV money and the variable... crowd receipts is irrelevant this year (you can't make money on socially distanced crowds). One more loss for the Eagles or the Crows and they may as well mothball a few players for the season

For minnows like us we need to sell the hope of next season but I suspect that come round 7or so we'll be packing our tents.

The AFL will be loving this. Another leg up last year for the Suns, who have enjoyed 10 years of draft concessions. The talent was already there and a few other clubs had better claims to priority picks, but they could not risk their babies failing. I hate the expansion sides

never forget, they're FRANCHISES not clubs

AFL should take away some draft picks from Gold Coast this year.

Absolutely. Trading away their future mid round 1 pick now looks like smart move. Not sure what extra picks they have left but unless they fall off a cliff surely they would have to be rescinded.

God Matt Rowell is an absolute gun.

Wish he was playing for us.

Great to see the crows are the basket case of the AFL. It’s great viewing.

You're not doing it right, OX.  It needs to be:

Gee Rowell is a gun.  I can't believe we didn't trade all of our picks this year and next to get pick one so we could draft him.  What a missed opportunity from us again.

On the other hand, the Crows are absolutely pathetic.  One goal to three quarter time against the reigning wooden spooners.

2000 fans today at metricon.

Is that a record?

Suns impressive how they're running this out.

crows look devoid of 'spirit', whatever that intangible may mean

Good, hopefully it lasts for a few seasons.

Let’s not get too carried away with GC.

They always start the season hot and then fall in a heap by round 8 as injuries and fatigue mount.

They’ll probably get out of the bottom 4 for the first time in 6-7 years though.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

  • VOTES: Richmond

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
