What the Opposition are Saying: Rd 02 vs Carlton

Recommended Posts

I honestly don't know how either club could have any fully formed confidence going into this one.

Both clubs have a handful of new players, some draftees, changed positions/roles etc.

It will come down to continuity and chemistry with the game plan, who can execute.

Predicting a very ordinary game. Extra rust to shake off. Quite a few teenagers playing.

Cant wait!

Chazz, you disregard facts and dismiss detailed analysis of any data that conflicts with your predetermined position and conclusion.

I’d be a fool to keep “arguing” with you. Let’s agree to disagree.

Supporters making excuse after excuse and not demanding more and better is part of the reason the club is where it is. Winners wouldn’t accept or make excuses for our round 1 performance. After 2019, our players should have wanted to win and given it their all, no matter what.

I would agree normally.  But I won't based on one single 1st game of the season...  immediately following being told Pre-game, that the season was off.

Round 1 form is always hard to judge and after a long break it's even harder. But Carlton weren't that bad in Rd 1.

After the tigers took a 46 point lead into half time.

Its the reason the season should never have begun in the first place. The AFL and NRL begun their seasons out of pure greed.

How can you not agree?  5 goals to none in the opening 20-odd minutes of a new season.  Even if we want to excuse them because of the bizarre circumstances going in to the game, it was clearly felt more by one side than the other.  That most certainly points to professionalism - one willing to not let adversity impact their own performance, and the other one did.

So you're saying every time a side wins they are more professional than the side that loses?

If you are correct, and our players "felt" the suspension of the season more than West Coast's did, why is that such a disaster? Humans do not all react to things the same way and I do not expect our players to be robots and to block out every emotion. If they were affected by the suspension, I understand that. If they were affected more than West Coast was, I understand that too.

I wouldn't apply the same sentiment if it was a Dee's supporter.

It was meant to be tongue in cheek.

That's also a problem. Do you think that tongue in cheek or casual prejudice is ok? Joking or otherwise, swearing about an English man because he isn't a Dees supporter, dismissing him because you think he's only been in the country for 5 minutes. Seriously? It's 2020 and if you haven't already noticed... NOT COOL, MCQUEEN.

Demonland, let's ban that sort of post.

Clearly not saying that.  But let's face it, we have extensive history for not being prepared for some games.  I'm sure you can create your own list, but I'll start you off with the Gold Coast game last year, the Essendon game when they had most of their team out, Geelong 186.

I can remember going to some games where you could tell as plain as day during the pregame warm up if we were on or not.

And it's so typical of many supporters to give an excuse for losing, when BOTH teams got the same news at the same time, and only ONE performed to a standard that says their heads were in the game. It's always us who are being excused for a sub standard effort. And people wonder why we have been a laughing stock for 50 years.

Sorry my fault. I'll send a sternly worded email to the club to let them know how poor round 1 was so we can win the flag this year. I didn't realise I was to blame for our lack of success since 1964 (and I wasn't even been for a couple of decades after that!)

What if West Coast didn't know about the seasons suspension,  Pre game..?

They didn't have to travel really, to the game;  and certainly didn't have to catch another flight home.

We were made to look 3rd rate in round 1. There is no getting around it, regardless of clever use of stats etc.

For people to be thinking we are going to smash Carlton this week, I think you have your head in the clouds. The Blues may very well smash us.

This post is spot on.

FFS some git even posted after round one that one of the reasons we were flat is because we might have been worried about how we were getting home....un*********believable.

If we want to win a premiership some time in the not-too-distant future, we need to learn how to win against good sides regularly, regardless of the Where and When.

If you are happy to keep making excuses for our quite frankly embarrassing performances year after year after year then you are happy to never see the team improve. As long as we are "Nice blokes" or "Try our best" eh?

'64 was a lifetime ago. Its time to expect more.

Much more.

Carlton should be a walkover in their current state.

The fact it could go either way is more of a brickbat for us than a bouquet to them.

Win well this week or P.O. MFC. Make me a believer.

Has anyone that is teeing off about our rd1 match actually watched the replay? I’ve watched it twice and if you reckon we were putrid, you have rocks in ya head, with all due respect.

we flew over at 11:30pm the night before, had no preparation on the ground as we normally would. We were dominating the game for the first twelve minutes and completely blew our chances by wasting shots on goal. That is putrid goal kicking, but not a putrid performance.

the eagles had a stellar 5 minutes before quarter time, which we never recovered from. We had a moment in the 3rd, but poor inside 50 entries cost us again. Trying to use Fritta as a lead up forward was a big factor and I expect the addition of Jackson will allow us to compete.

the main offenders of the poor entries and costly turnovers have been omitted - Hibberd and Spargo.

cool ya jets and see what unfolds on Saturday

Demons are putting a lot of faith in Lever and May down back and Jackson up front. Hope rain isn't forecast.

Lol Yeah, a lot of faith to play our two best, highest-paid defenders.

Pretty sure rain won’t be a factor anyway playing at Marvel with roof closed

I’ve got more important things in life than to be concerned with your emotional reactions.
Maybe a practice you should acquaint yourself with?

Great post. Objectively reviewing a game seems to be akin to appeasement for some Melbourne supporters.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
