Luke Jackson to play as a defender tomorrow.

Sauce - Gerard Healy who know Jones well.

My question is why not just play O Mac on one of Casboult, McKay or McGovern?

If true, does that mean Smith forward? Or perhaps a late change with Weid in with the questions on Lever's soreness?

so we've lost a player to stupidity, and now our much hyped ruck-forward is going to play back cos our high-priced third tall 'who can't play on a man' is crocked again? 2020: it keeps on giving!

I’m still trying to work out the blockbuster trade of  2 first round draft picks for a player that quite frankly has done bugger all since he’s crossed over. But that’s a story for another day.

i was more than happy to pay lever for it; it's a shame he's proved yet another bust, as he was terrific for the crows and we saw what he was beginning to be able to be for us when he was injured

hopefully he can become the player he promised to be

i had far more issue with the may trade

Lever hasn’t proved “yet another bust” at all, so I’m not sure what you’re on about. He hasn’t had a clear run at it since his knee injury, and I’d say give him another chance this season before calling him a failure IMO. He still has a clear opportunity to prove himself a success.

Healy is a [censored]. Knows nothing except for his love child Freo.

O.Mac is slow and [censored] gives us nothing.

May on Casboult, Smith on McKay and Lever on McGovern. Casboult caused us problems last time need to put our best defender on him. Smith plays tall and can handle McKay. McGovern is useless Lever can play on their worst forward. Good to see Silvagni out he caused us problems too.

Not dismissing you and the Melbourne footy department have done stupider things in the past but that makes zero sense. Jackson hasn't played with the defense AT ALL, he has been touted as a forward option with midfield stints so not once has him being played as a defender being mentioned, and where does this leave Smith then? Playing in the forward line when he's been training (promisingly apparently) with the defense.

I can see Gawn going back there at times but if Jackson plays in defense then I will be shocked.

I personally don't agree with OMac being given the chop when he actually played alright against WC.

This is on point. The poor bloke did his ACL in his first few games with us when he was finding his feet. Then after 1 year out, with multiple complications, he cops a couple of other knocks and is sidelined like much of our team was. He  has only just turned 24, has shown what kind of player he can be when he's cherry ripe. Yet, posters want to through out the bust tag.

What we paid for him is irrelevant, but i'll throw it out there. picks 10 and 16. In addition, we got pick 37 back. Bias to support cases is common, but saying "2 first round picks", which in fairness it was, only paints one perspective. Saying picks 10 and 16 for Lever and pick 37, thus giving details of the deal. So you look at the player drafted, it was Lochie Obrien at 10 (on trade of the pick to Carlton) and Ned McHenry at 16. In addition, pick 37 we took Petty. My opinion is those two players would not even be in our current team. We are pushing for a premiership.

i was being sarcastic; the 'proved yet another bust' should've been in quotation marks as per the previous 'can't play on a man'

Lets re-visit this shall we? With a different deck and a different opposition.

He's either best 22 or he's not.

We know the answer.

Jordan Lewis also said this on his radio commentary last night.

Harmes should be in starting 18 before Riv

Brayshaw to start on HFF and Jones as midfield rotation

Bennell will play forward

Do you really believe that is how they will line up?

Jackson in defence sounds like a terrible idea.

only positive might be that Gawn could Drift fwd more and dominate

I have actually been thinking Jackson has all the attributes to play as a key defender since watching him play in the preseason. Still, it would be strange after not training with the group all pre season and even mentioning during the recent podcast he would play forward.

We don't need another defender

We need a goal kicker

Harmes is wasted in the backline

This is just crazy

Got a link? Also, is Lewy still kicking coach?

If Jackson plays backline, Goodwin will have some serious questions to answer.

It's actually not a bad idea for a young tall to start back and learn the craft.

Not sure it's going to happen.

...but with his leap, pace, smarts and ball use he would be a natural.

I’m general I agree, but for a talented yet skinny ruckman I wouldn’t risk it. He’ll be pushed around by key forwards

Yeah, gut says Bedford for sure, but wouldn't be against Lockhart, although there's unconfirmed reports he's missing the game due to a borderline injury/soreness. Can we choose from non-emergencies still?

Sore quad it was apparently. Makes more sense why he missed now.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
