Good on him for being honest

he was not equipped to deal with last year, not all his own fault

But that is the job of Senior Coach

It wasn't the same yoga retreat Neeldy got kicked out of was it? ?

Yep, it can take time to learn and adapt to the ups and downs, as with any high pressure job. Look at Hardwick, and how long it took him to get a handle on it - with extremely positive results!

Absolutely. He was far too dismissive of our Preliminary Final exit in 2018, so i was not altogether suprised at how 2019 unfolded, there were many factors

But i do hope Simon’s attitude has toughened up

You only ever as good as your last game...

Really good interview, I like Honesy Goodwin.

I donno, this preseason just feels different... I remain cautiously optimistic.

Yes it feels different

Burgess and his team have re energised the Football Dept.

Sorry??

I don't know about anyone else but the only thing that jarred a little with me was the fact that it was conducted by Damien Barrett. Not that there was anything wrong with his questions but considering the subject matter I think the girls from On The Mark on Fox for example could have mined a lot more from Goody's answers. Barrett's response to almost every reply was 'yep'. He should stick to what he's best at. Muckraking and innuendo.

Agree. Barretr’s “yep” answers show him to be a very shallow interviewer. No interest whatsoever in the answer or nuanced dialogue. It shows he is a shocking listener and is simply keen to get to the next question. All about him, I suspect.

There is a reason, even his friends call him "Purple"

Yes totally agree. His “yep” answers were almost dismissive and more like “Get on with it”

Damien thinks his questions are more important than the answers given.

Wrong.

No one gives a toss about Barrett, his job is highly disposable

good to see i'm not the only one who thought barrett might be a good journo (muckraker?) but as an interviewer he leaves a lot to be desired

Sadly bad interviewing is not confined to sports journos.  Very often they just read through the list of questions they or a producer has already prepared.  It becomes blatanly obvious when the interviewee says 'the sky was blue' and the very next question is 'what colour was the sky?'.

Ah, maybe I was looking too deep - it’s who you omitted. No mention of Goodwin as part of the ‘change’, just Burgess and ‘his’ team.
Which if I’ve inferred correctly - means none /or little of the change in team from your perspective comes from Goodwin, which feels unfair from my perspective.

No Mate. Goodwin is still there  His changes will be incremental

Burgess has come in and taken the the team so far, to levels they have never been to before.
somewhere we should have been long ago

I also wonder how much credit goes to Gary Pert...

Good listen, although the proof will be in the pudding. But Goody definitely sounds calm and relaxed.

Still hate the way he calls it 2-20.

You are also forgetting the input from the players, Goodwin and Burgess gave them a plan whilst they were on their break, they ALL bought in

If you also listen Goodwin states the players were 'confused with the meaages they were receiving in 2019, Goodwin has ensured during the pre season that EVERYBODY is on the same page

Pert has done what a CEO should do, keep his head out of the media, unless required  and make sure offield is ticking over

@Satyriconhome - how does it come to pass that folk are confused? Is it delivery? Is it the player? Is it generational? What’s your take?

Missing the point as usual.

Burgess has set the new standard at the club.

Yes, everybody has bought into it. That’s expected

But Burgess is the one who has walked in with the changes.

Last Summer and during the 2019 season the entire team was not fit enough in all areas, even though YOU told us all everything was ticking over nicely
As i have said before you look, but you don’t see what is really going on

Who bought in Burgess?

Was it Pert?

Watched this expecting our coach to answer Purples question, only to be advised that to hear the answer I would need to subscribe to The Purple Headed Warriors podcast.  This is outlandish and once I have calmed down will be emailing the club to demand an explanation!!

I agree Mickey. (But I think the saying goes, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating".)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
