Jake Lever points the finger against Hawthorn on Friday night.

"See that? Right there! He threw it!"

"Yeah .... so what?  In rugby you can do that."

"This is Aussie Rules, you dumb ***!!"

"Oh right ... feet only ... but you can head it. So ... is that guy the goalie?"

Lever was awesome. Cool calm and measured. hes back to his 2017 all Australian form if he keeps his form up.

While May was rusty with some of his disposal, it's so good to have a big monster down back who can take the big forwards. He will be vital for is in terms of leadership down if he stays fit.

Some of Lever's disposal was awry as well. Let's look at the final result instead of nitpicking every nuance. In the old days you went to the footy and enjoyed the spectacle as a visceral once only performance. These days every time a player scratches his head band or puts a finger in one nasal aperture and lets boogs fly from the other it's not only on camera but on replay then for years on You Tube afterwards. It's an imperfect game...

Lever and May together down back

Petracca in the middle and Fritsch forward

Langdon and Tomlinson on the wings

Jones forward, Lockhart back, a rejuvenated Viney and Melksham and Kozzie lurking in the pocket

There is actually a lot of significant differences to last years side.

Sorry DD, but 'All Australian squad' form.

Same thing. The fact that he was in the initial squad alone is an amazing achievement and shows what he's capable of.

Jeffy Garlett was in that squad too from memory.

And so he should have been: he played great games for us.

Also from memory, he did kick 40+ goals as a small forward that season.

I'm sure it's already been said elsewhere, but how good was it seeing him run right through Wingard

The kick in from May to Gawn from the goal square, which immediately led to Langdon sprinting down the wing and then delivering it to Fristch, who converted skillfully on his left, was great to watch - but, on so many levels, it also represented the significant difference between this season and last.

That so many industry observers and commentators (most notably The Roar) fail to recognise these differences surprises me. Injuries permitting, we should definitely be in the mix this year. And a critical factor in this will be the May and Lever partnership - both of whom I’m hoping will be in the AA conversation by the end of this season.

I reckon they’ll both prove themselves to be fantastic recruits for this club.

I think 'balance' is the key to the 2020 team with most of the side now able to play in positions they are now suited to

It’s Leigh Fisher in the pic. If that’s his grasp on the rules it might explain the fairly premature end to his playing career!

Ha ha Yeah that may be getting a little carried away but good to see 'Tickets' & May show some solid form nevertheless.....Just hope they both stay injury free as that will be a major factor in our success.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
