We are not even close to the biggest beggars. St Kilda clearly the worst but get an easy run in the media as they have a lot of former players at Fox etc. [censored] stain on the competition - just like North.

...and the Saints received $30M for the re-development of Linton st.:

Wikipaedia:

"Recently renamed RSEA Park - St Kilda Saints FC LTD's Moorabbin venue was approved for a 30 million dollar redevelopment financed by the State Government, St Kilda Saints Football Club LTD, Australian Football League, Kingston Council and local football leagues. St Kilda returned to Moorabbin Oval as its primary training and administrative base in March 2018."

At least the Saints have a place to call home.

Yes they do.  The point being made is if they and other clubs put their hands out for tax payers money, it is OK for us to do the same, proving their is also a community benefit.

i was at their home ground today for work.. nice space. but sitting down having a coffee and they had a room full of pokies. gross. also, was there to support a young fella that i work with that is a mad saints fan. i had driven with him from preston to watch their captain's run training session and they all done by the time they were meant to be starting.. pretty poor for their (few) fans.

wished i wore my dees scarf in their today.. quite an unlikeable club and this news headline doesn't make them any more appealing.

Saints cop the same raw deals we do except at least we get to play at the G (better stadium deal) and get to host ANZAC Eve and Queens Bday every other year.

Saints aren't the problem, the AFL's inequitable policies that create these disparities are the problem.

St Kilda have received at least $4 million more each year for the last three years from the AFL compared to other Victorian clubs.

Saints' $20 million the biggest Victorian distribution

The problem is too many believe the narrative that only the Dee's ask for money from the AFL, because we asked for a small amount of 1.4 million, when we needed to get rid of NEELD, and got ridiculed by the media and our own, while at the he same time port Adelaide where given a extra 9 million over three years, to pay off their 9 million debt, and no one criticize them about it. Your so quick to think this because too many are sheep.

The saints wasteed a sh*tload on seaford and everything that was meant to be down there....it turned into the biggest white elephant across club land in the last 20 years with there own players wanted more money due to the travel/locations etc.

The most annoying bit is the Saints wasted all the cash and effectively got gifted a clean slate by government.

How much bad management are they, their debt was 9 million in 2013 when the AFL gave them that handout, they actually have a bad  stadium deal at the  Adelaide oval, I remember when they rushed in there after the rebuild, someone in the media said it was a bad deal and would put them in big debt.

Sometimes it doesn't hurt to look in your own backyard before making these comments.  Not many training threads this preseason have had us starting on or after the advertised starting time, often up to an hour prior.

The AFL should help the smaller clubs as they negotiate the massive media rights which wouldn't be possible without all the clubs. For mine I don't really get why there is this stigma on teams who are not fully self sufficient, otherwise why even have the draft or salary cap either? You can't equate the "business" of a football club purely to a business who's only purpose is to generate profits, otherwise the purpose would be to dominate the whole market and drive all the other clubs out of the competition!

We'd be left with just Hawthorn Richmond and Collingwood.

No I don't think it's that simple Dr

Their Etihad/Marvel  Staduim deal has hamstrung them for years. (As has Bulldogs and Kangas) but it's o lot more difficult to get supporters to go in numbers to Their stadium than  the G.But fair is fair and we have been at the G for a lifetime and when big Clubs play us or we are firing hosting bid Vic Clubs we can draw large numbers as 2016/17/18 showed.

Plus we have I believe a more engaged supporter base. (2019 did not show that in attendance as most of the 52,000 stayed away (about 30,00 to be honest) in droves once we were in our malaise of losses and no longer looking  like succeeding as expected.

But Saints are a rare beast and seem to cobble together  a team and Ability to survive irrespective of their teams results or ability. But when dies judgement day come to them!!! $12 million in debt!!
