Need somewhere to put the crumbs first. How about we wait to see what transpires mid year when the next stage of the Caulfield project is due to be announced.

$31M from the State Govt to upgrade Mars.

Dogs have done well when you add in the Whitten Oval upgrade

Of course Geelong is "gold plated".

"The AFL is investigating the option of building a specialist training venue for travelling clubs in Victoria to end the problem of them constantly searching for an oval to prepare for their games at Marvel Stadium and the MCG."

They can have Goshes Paddock once the AFL help fund our new home base...

or better they can have casey :)

I wouldn’t be comparing stadiums, community assets, Western oval, Ballarat, and Geelong, to a couple of ovals in the middle of a city racetrack.

Another use for Caulfield.

Umpires also need a home.

probably need to build 4 ovals in that case! - got to be at least 2 or 3 out-of-state teams per week coming to Melb.

In terms of co-funding at the Caulfield site, I'd be looking at a partnership with Monash Uni, much like the Swinburne partnership with Richmond and the Deakin partnership with Geelong.

One level could be used by Monash during non training days for their sports science students.

These assets, outside of admin and footy department, would be dormant for large periods of the week and could be used by Monash if we stuck their logo on there and accessed further funding with the partnership.

It's just a matter of putting forward a strong enough case.

Dogs do the same with Victoria University at Whitten Oval, ATG.

Thats an original thought - the AFL to have its own ground.

what's the bet they go back to waverley?

They all don’t need to train at the same time and they were talking about the Perth teams and only one here on a weekend at best. So 1hr session easy to accomodate on 2 ovals.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
