Why oh why do D/ers  not understand that at this stage no proposal is completed to be refused  overlooked or written off.

Some D/Lers post negative comments about our Club when we don’t hold the strings this stage.

Another virtually says we don’t fill out forms of application for funding and other Clubs are great at it. Well that's because the Cats for example have a ground and it is  easy to make a specific grandstand application for funding. By six time over they are good. 

No plan  including our training facility is near finalisation so hold the horses till it is. Or let’s get into our Club and make them the whipping boys again. 

Oh and the post about the Lexus Centre location not being chosen was and it is well known a walk up case of no money to put in. Joe G had just saved us from merging/ possible extinction but still it’s used again incorrectly as an opportunity missed with no mention of the fact that the funds were not available at the time in our finances. 

It’s all about timing and one must have some cash to spend on such a development I repeat.  

This may be the final option for inner city land suitable and it’s no good spoiling the facility after this length of time due to overdue haste.

Yep, but my point was more about other clubs getting funding under false pretences.

An odd comment when the club got $2.7M  of the $3M that he originally promised.   Rounding down to nearest $100 thou that is say about $2.7M than MFC will get from me (and others) in 60 years of support.

If Joe had been smarter, he could have engaged a lot of Members to financially contribute and we would have gotten another $5-6 Mill 

But he didn’t. Joe was King for a short time and we are still waiting to find a base

Still, he put in more dosh than anyone else ever has, by far. And at a time when the well was bone dry in terms of club finances. There was sweet fa chance of us being able to finance the Olympic swimming pool redevelopment. Also worth remembering the Olympic park running track (now Pies training oval) wasn't part of the original plan, it came later due to Eddie's 'coercion'

I understand all that. But while Joe was in charge, there was no negotiation. I say this because I worked with a Board Member at the time, I got daily updates on how hard it was to do anything. Yes Joe donated a large chunk, but it did come at a cost

Perhaps over the last 20 years but the Lexus Centre itself has a shelf life, just like Punt Road. As a facility it’ll drift towards the back of the pack given the limited space / development potential

Sure, but it would have been fantastic in 1998-99 when it was first offered. And it would have given us great bargaining power within the Competition.Big Name Players would have come to the MFC. 
Everything has a shelf life, but we are still trying to find a block of land, other clubs have redeveloped and rebuilt 2-3 times

Yep agree with that. It certainly compounded the problems we’ve had as a club prior to Jackson, Roos and co. Less so now, and if Caulfield allows us to continually have the best facilities in the league for the next 50 years then we’re going to be better positioned than Collingwood & Richmond who will themselves have to be looking elsewhere

Exactly. Now let me clarify, the Bentleigh Club and Leaoak were great purchases and i give him credit for those , but they didn’t assist in getting Training Facilities, which is what the core Business of The Club is. Winning games of Football. 
My Biggest worry with Gutnick was that he didn’t look far enough into the Future, there were ways to raise money back then, but he wasn’t interested.

I wonder if the people against our proposed move to Caulfield are the same ones that just stopped a bike path connection being built adjacent to the racetrack and are now fighting with each other because it's been diverted down a residential street instead.

There will always be NIMBY's. We just have to get the majority of the community on board. Given the inside of the track is used for very little presently it should not be a difficult case to prosecute and convince enough people that the project makes sense.
