Harriet Cordner at 177cm named in the ruck.....

Be interesting to see if Daisy starts on the HBF. Bacline looks a little weak so may be there for experience. Forward line looks pretty good. Big fan of Cunninham. I suppose Cordner in ruck doesn't make a lot of sense but O'Dea and paxman speak for themselves.

With no true ruck available, Cordner/Zanker/Scott it is for now. In retrospect we were lucky to get away with 1 ruck in the last few seasons. We'll no doubt be looking to develop L.Pearce's eventual replacement sooner rather than later.

As for this game...if it's open and free-flowing, we're probably doomed. A scrap is the only way I can see us getting over the line, we're really up against it. Maybe Casey conditions can help us instead of hindering for once! Looking forward to seeing some new players and the continued development of the rest. Go Dees!

Yep Nth Melb looks v strong.  Emma King will dominate ruck (with Saad?) so our midfield needs to plan for that.  Ash Riddell is underrated by the media and with Kearney and Garner it will be tough in there.
Hopefully all our  girls returning from injury are right to go.  Looking forward to seeing Gabby Colvin, Irish girl Goldrick and Captain Daisy get out there and show us their best.   You never know.  Go Dees.

It really is a remarkable comeback by Daisy. Giving birth to twins 12 mths ago and how much her body would have changed and tonight at 1/2 time they showed a story on her coming back. She was at 94kgs after giving birth and has got her body back to footy fitness. You can sense how much the players love having her back and she is a great leader for our club.

Those goalposts look like they are about to blow away.

North just looking far more speedy and skillful in first quarter. Did look like they were kicking to scoring end  so hopefully its a better 2nd quarter.

Casey Fields really does needs some more stands and sun protection to improve standard of play and make it more comfortable for spectators.

Really disappointed in Fox commentators... haven't mentioned the gale having any effect on inside 50's... all over Nth in first Q... patronising garbage! Surprise, surprise… Dees hit back in second Q with the wind... no mention of that being a factor by lame-brain commentary. No mention of dubious first 50m penalty by female Ump (just plain wrong!) which led to a goal… no discussion of double 50 metre penalty which also resulted in a North goal... I expected the Dees to hit back well in second Q. They will have to work very hard to limit Nth in the 3rd or it's game over!

whats the scores ?

20-15 North, 2 to play in 3rd.

Emma Kearney is the Joel Selwood of AFLW. Lifts her arm to make tackles high.

There was a critical game we lost narrowly last season (or one before?) where she won a free in that fashion to goal and effectively win the game. Nearly kicked in the TV and shouted your words exactly!

We didn’t get advantage there....why???

I’m happy for the women to get the win but I had to switch it off at half time.

If you insert the letter ‘U’ into AFLW you know what you get.

Really important win, given our injuries and the opponent. Hopefully sets us up for a good season.

Was that really neccessary?

Loved the win. Could have been a bigger win if not for the 50s and advantage that wasn't allowed.

though Pearce was good in the 1st quarter but was wasted behind the ball after that. Especially in the 2nd and 4th when we had the wind.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
