Callum Twomey’s 25 best draft prospects.

Tall, athletic and versatile: 25 of the best draft prospects

... and some news from WA.

WA key forward enhances draft stocks, possible Freo pick blitzes

Not sure if we necessarily would be interested in a 196cm key forward at this point in time or that we’ll have the picks necessary.

The draft’s a mere four months away but that seems like light years the way things are going these days.

The impact on the draft of academies and father-sons can be measured by this -

Braeden Campbell 180cm/73kg 4/2/02 Sydney Academy/Allies Midfielder Sydney Swans Academy

Heath Chapman 193cm/81kg 31/1/02 West Perth/Western Australia Key defender

Nik Cox 199cm/82kg 15/1/02 Northern Knights/Vic Metro Key forward/defender

Alex Davies 191cm/85kg 18/3/02 Gold Coast Academy/Allies Midfielder Gold Coast Academy

Zac Dumesny 187cm/79kg 26/4/02 South Adelaide/Western Australia Midfielder

Errol Gulden 171cm/71kg 18/7/02 Sydney Academy/Allies Midfielder/forward Sydney Swans Academy

Oliver Henry 188cm/76kg 29/7/02 Geelong Falcons/Vic Country Forward

Elijah Hollands 188cm/85kg 25/4/02 Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country Forward/midfielder

Joel Jeffrey 192cm/78kg 12/3/02 NT Thunder/Allies Forward/defender Gold Coast Academy

Lachie Jones 185cm/88kg 9/4/02 Woodville-West Torrens/South Australia Defender/midfielder Port Adelaide NGA

Finlay Macrae 184cm/75kg 13/3/02 Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Midfielder

Logan McDonald 196cm/85kg Perth/Western Australia Tall forward

Reef McInnes 192cm/84kg Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Midfielder Collingwood NGA

Nathan O'Driscoll 187cm/76kg 17/5/02 Perth/Western Australia Midfielder

Archie Perkins 186cm/77kg 26/3/02 Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro Midfielder/forward

Will Phillips 180cm/79kg 22/5/02 Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Midfielder

Caleb Poulter 191cm/77kg 12/10/02 Woodville-West Torrens/South Australia Midfielder/defender

Zach Reid 202cm/82kg 2/3/02 Gippsland Power/Vic Country Key defender

Riley Thilthorpe 200cm/99kg 7/7/02 West Adelaide/South Australia Key forward

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan 194cm/84kg 4/4/02 Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Key forward Western Bulldogs NGA

That’s nine out of the top 25 by Twomey including the player tipped to go at #1.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how this pans out on draft night and how Melbourne will handle the situation whereby we don’t have a pick in the first round at the moment.

Who is our academy player? Is he any good?

I believe this will be moved given the stage 3 restrictions in regional Vic.  The Lions, Suns, Giants, Swans academy systems are playing 3 matches in a round robin. They will get good sightings on their prospects.

Brodie Lake from Darwin is one of the best prospects as a tall 186cm running midfielder with good skills. But under the Gil Mc charity programs, the AFL GC Suns get Darwin access so he goes likely as a priority selection.  If not, he’s one to think of around the 30-35 draft mark.

DEES need at least two young wing types (with excellent skills) to be drafted but traded out the 1st round 2020 pick.  Here’s 10 boys from prior years championships and under 16s carnival who showed promise.

Jack Carroll -East Freo Colts  (20-25)

Zac Dumesny -Sth Adel seniors (20-25)

Jack Ginnivan -Bendigo U18s  (25-30)

Nick Stevens -Greater West Vic U18s (25-30)
Jamieson Murphy -Nth Adelaide U18s  (25-30)

Joshua Clarke -Eastern U18s  (30-35)

Brodie Lake - GC Suns NT academy* (30-35)

Patrick Walker - Tassie U18s  (45-50)

Harry Sharp - Greater West Vic U18s  (45-50)

Ty Sears Swan Dist U18s (45-50)

We traded away our first pick ? . Factoring in all the academy and compromised picked, our first pick is likely to come in the late 20s-early 30s. This draft supposedly has good amount of talls. Will we be able to land a tall forward with our first pick in 20s-30s?

Have to seriously consider Darcy Cassar from the 2019 draft group. He’s a midfielder/classy half back who missed out on being drafted but trained with the Hawks over the summer and was close to being added as a SSP sign up.
He signed up for the Bulldogs VFL Team for 2020 and impressed in the two practice matches before the year ultimately ended.  He’s too good not to be in the AFL system.

I still think we will add 3 youngsters. Definitely won’t be inside mids or a young ruckman. NEED OUTSIDE MIDFIELDERS THAT CAN RUN,  WITH SKILLS TO KICK THE FOOTY.

How are you at operating a computer on draft night!

Nice mate. Looking at his WAFL profile, he's listed as 182cm and 72kg.

Midfielder by the looks of it?

Taj is actually developing nicely, turned 17 in March so think he's in the 2021 draft

I saw Kobe Farmer has had a couple of good games playing for South Fremantle colts, be nice if we could get both in 2021

Kobe is Freo bound and I think good enough to get drafted. Maybe he could play 4-5 years at Freo then switch to the Dees !!!

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
