Optimistic outlook for us to get Kolodjashnij, Vandenburg, Jsmith and then also Bennell all injury free and fit.
If we can , the best 22 looks impressive.

It wouldn't be a best 22 without my contribution.

No to Weid.   I have Joel Smith in the team taking over the 'Frost' role.  Petty is a forward.  Bennell is a pipe dream at this point.

It’s still not a team that would scare the top tier, but it looks infinitely better than last year.

Jackson is going to be interesting, it’s going to be very hard to not play a 199cm bloke that puts in

For me Lever needs to be the intercept third tall.  He's much better when he's freed up to use his judgment and athleticism.

May and one of Oscar McDonald or Petty need to hold down FB with May at CHB. As Petty is training with the forwards Oscar will be given first crack in the main defensive role.  Duel hip surgery ruined his 2019, but he has a chance to make amends.  If he's not competitive enough then Petty should move back.  Petty's going to be a very good player, whether it's in defence or attack.

I suspect Jackson and Pickett will be staples in the side sooner rather than later.

I'm not a Frost fan, so don't share your view.

We all know his strengths, but he wasn't predictable to his teammates and I've heard he wasn't the most coachable player, which didn't help his efforts to be retained.

Does anyone know if Petty has been training with the backs or the forwards? Or maybe they are not split into groups yet?

petty with forwards, joel smith with the backs from all reports i believe

remember, the notion of best 22 / next 22 is all pipe dream stuff - you never have players not carrying injuries

I was on the fence a bit with petty but he convinced me once he moved forward.

Not because he was a natural forward or anything (though he is certainly did not look out of place), but because his competiveness and great hands really became apparent. Agree that he is going to become a very good player

Goody is talking about using petty up forward but obviously he can play back if and when required. Which is a really useful attribute in terms of flexibility and options for goody, particularly as tmac can also be be a swing man (and perhaps Smith as well).

Thanks what

This is really difficult. A lot of our injury management, trading and drafting means we have almost an entire list to choose from, and it even looks like a lot of the young kids could play if required.

So maybe not best 22, but what I would like to see:

B:          Jetta               OMac          Hibberd
HB:       Salem             May             Lever
?         Langdon         Oliver          Tomlinson
HF:       Petracca         Weideman Melksham
F:          Fritsch            TMac          Jones
R:          Gawn             Viney           Brayshaw
Int:        Preuss           Harmes      Petty      Hunt

Emerg: Hannan   vandenBerg    KK    Hore

Notes:
Back 6 might need an injection of pace so definite opportunity  for another player to break into the backline
We have a lot of forward options. Very hard for Hannan to miss out.
Jones as a small-ish forward works for me, but if not then he might miss out on best 22. Bedford or Pickett most likely to replace him
I reckon the Gawn/Preuss rotation through the forward line and bench could become a weapon if Preuss can run out 4 full quarters

Interesting you have Chandler on the bench in the seconds. Apparently he has been told if he has a good pre-season he is in the mix to play for the dees round 1. I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion just what I have been told.

There is only one person that should ever post a 'best 22' on D'land ever.  Whatwhat you are clearly in breach of D'land code, Section 5, sub section 3.1

I expect your apology letter to be on my desk in the morning, which i will duly CC to Werridee pronto!

You'd benefit from reading the training reports and the groups players are training with.

Petty with the forwards, Harmes with the backs, Petracca with the mids.

Petty is in rehab, has been since start

2 weeks away max from joining in main group

Only seen the squad split once into 'groups' and Joel Smith went with the backs

Easily in our most talent 25 or so players. If Pickett is as raw as he's likely to be then Chandler will be ahead of him as the most suited to a pressure forward role. His tackling was very good on debut, in many ways he's the incumbent in the role.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
