I’d conservatively offer him a 25 year extension.

Burgess should be in hot demand right around the world with the squeeze on sporting sides to have less people, but have the best people

H Petty indefinite! A groin, are we talking osteopubis? And I note AVB still working toward full fitness! After what 10 months to get fit we still have 5 on the injury list plus AVB still working toward selection. Oh well to be expected as our usual year on year injury list average always seems to be around 10 to 12.

To be fair, two of those 5 were always going to be out for the entire season, even with the long break.
Petty is obviously an injury that requires patience as it keeps returning. Similar to Smith, who now appears to have recovered.
Hore is an unfortunate training incident and AVB is a goner.

We are in a damn good position. None of the guys on the injury list are walk up best 22 players. Yes Petty would probably get a game this week if he was fit. But he is not the difference between a win or loss each week. If we can keep this size list of injuries for the rest of the year, we are a massive chance.

All in all, pretty good with all players around the best 25 available for next week.

I’m interested in how KK is going and wonder what he is up to at present and how one rehabs from concussion issues.

I was a big big fan of his after his second year, thought he was the second coming of Corey Enright. Such a shame if we never see him reach his potential.

Has he even been training with the rest of the boys?

It is brutal but KK is probably finished for his own sake there is a lot more to life than football.

What happened to Preuss? Was meant to be missing 10 weeks with a knee injury, and has rolled straight into an achilles injury?

The silence is deafening with KK, I honestly think we’re keeping him on the list because it makes little difference either way to us and at least he then has access to doctors who can help him. No updates at all over the last 6-8 months surely means little progress is being made.

Sadly I think you are correct.

Agree. I think his cerebral health is crucial and I hope the Dees support him through with access to medical professionals. It’s unfortunate but his footy career is likely to be over.

And I'll just add I'm not saying what I said to be callus, I really wish the best for him but as you've said his health is so much more important and it looks from the outside as though the club is doing all they can to help him with this.

Probably correct. I’d imagine he will be one of the first delisted at the end of year.

seriously, this is a little mahoney-land mine quietly just hidden in the middle of the list,  don't get me wrong still hopeful of KK making it back but Gold Coast knew how bad it was and did the classic hospital handball.

Interested to know if Melksham ha a niggle, im always one to point out how lazy the guy can be but R2 was beyond a joke how often he was edge of TV screen walking in space making no impact.....

Oh didn’t realise that.

I think the last year will get payed out.

Or, if he can't get his body right, he may just retire anyway.

I didn't mind the contract at the time - give the bloke some security while he gets himself right - and he was only a 'steak knives' addition to our list as part of the May trade anyway.  It was always high risk, high reward stuff, and unfortunately this one might come off.  But, to me, it hasn't really cost us anything, so it was worth a try for a player who could have been very handy for us if he could get over the concussion.

I'm not sure how many "high risk, high reward" cases clubs should be taking, especially if list sizes diminish. But if the Bennell deal provides the high rewards we hope for - and so far, so good - it might help people understand the KK strategy better.

Hore can be on ice for a few weeks. Literally!! May-Lever-Smith as our 3 defenders hopefully for a few more weeks. But Smith will need to show more. Goody will back him imo.

Hore might be unlikely for the rest of the year if he keeps getting these injuries. Might be best to just put him on ice for the year and have him focus on 2021.

If he gets another contract...

Isnt there a rule that says he can only be put on it twice before things start to go pair shaped?

On a serious not that's terrible news for this young fella.  Here's to a speedy full recovery.  May he return bigger and better.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
