He got one right did he? Some people like to believe every bit of fluff that reporters and so called media personalities put up.

It doesn't sound far-fetched that a teenager gets homesick.  But it also doesn't mean he won't stay.  And we don't know the context.

There'd be players at every club that get homesick that are able to work through it.  I suspect more stay than go despite the occasional pang, or lure of home.

That said, he's becoming a valuable commodity, especially if he salutes in the RS award.  Obviously, we don't want him to go anytime soon, but at least he's worth plenty and rising.

However, getting what someone's worth isn't always easy when you're limited to a two team town.

I know for a fact Trent Rivers is also expereincing mild homesickness, no concern either will leave, but a reality of recruiting interstate players, most go through it to a degree

He's just found himself a Melbournen girl and looks quiet smitten going off his instagram.

I'd have more concerns with Jackson then Rivers.

Not too worried about either to be honest Dazzle, i just think it's something that happens, sometimes it gets reported and sometimes it doesn't.

I'm not concerned about him leaving this year, I don't think he is silly enough to go to the Dockers and West Coast's Salary cap is busting at the seems.  There is no question WCE will be looking at him to replace Nic Nat.

It certainly isn't affecting their performances thus far.

Other than offering the opportunity to play in and win finals I suggest finding them a couple of homely Melburnian lassies.

It's been a crazy 18 months since they were drafted, and chances to get home would have been even more limited than usual. I'm not concerned as the club has been pretty good at handling this sort of stuff recently. If either decide to go home, so be it, we go hard at the trade table.

Always a bit of a worry when a young player doesn't sign a longer term extension than just one year. We'll now be on the merry go round with him until we get a more meaningful extension than the repeat 2 year ones that Hogan would only make.

Aren't there different rules for first year players?  I thought by default they get 2 years and can extend the initial contract to a third year which is what would have occurred for Jackson in this case.  I might be wrong, but certainly don't see it as a worry.

Depends how hard you're willing to play - Cats held out on Kelly and got 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks.

They can extend as long as they want - Kozzie and Rivers extended for 2 years beyond their 2 year rookie contract.

This would be utterly disastrous if we lost Jackson or Rivers, let alone both. Would set us back 5 years.

I moved interstate away from my family once. I miss my family (except @ding) badly.

I've occasionally experienced home sickness over the past 22 years, but have never seriously considered abandoning my adopted state of Queensland. Home is where the family heart is.

It is hard to walk away from a winning culture where you are held in high esteem and you have the Ultimate Reward within your reach. Our club has matured and we are well lead on and off the field, I believe that Luke Jackson is a stayer in every sense of the word.

another top game Big Dog…!!!!!

To be fair, if we lost both, it would be huge.

They are both going to be top 10 on our list in the next 5 years I think.

That's the thing, it's a little bit of a buzz word in AFL circles i find, a high percentage of interstate players would experience a level of homesickness during their careers, some more severe than others, but it generally is fleeting and the players are able to manage it with the support of the club

I would hate to lose dogga but If he is homesick (based on performances it doesn't look like he is) and he insists on leaving, Freo have some excellent victorians we can ask for in exchange. Young brayshaw would be my preference but Cerra or Serong (i think he's victorian) would suffice either. If we're lucky Mac Andrews might not go in the first round of the draft so he could be a replacement. he'd be 2-3 years off the first team of course but we could pick up a relief ruck from the lower leagues to give Maxy a dig-out in the meantime.

My strong preference is not to lose him. Hopefully the homesickness passes and he settles down

I've been watching the Dees search desperately for a champion for the past 40+ years. Jackson is exactly what we have been longing for.

DO NOT TRADE under any circumstances.

A hot sheila and local media attention will normally make all the difference.

Young men are mostly the same. Girls, cash, adulation. Melbourne is full of all 3.

Jackson would be a pick for the future, but would also be able to make an impact now. Think Stynes/White combo, the generation would be Gawn/Jackson. I love the prospect

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
