Hammer Comes Down at the Crows After External Review

Featured Replies

Am I right in saying we arenโ€™t doing an external review?

I hope we donโ€™t, because we areย perfectly fine, no point having a review of club that is going so well.

ย

Far out. What a time to be laying off key staff - in the middle of the trade period where thereโ€™s a player exodusย and while trying to employ a senior coach. Their board probably had no choice though once the report findings were in. Definitely sucks to be them at the moment.

Good to see youโ€™ve returned to your comfy old position of waiting for the sky to fall Clint. I was a bit worried last year that you might have accidentally seen the ray of sunshine peeking out from the clouds. โค๏ธ

Has the external review created better outcomes for theย club yet, than an internal review? Let me know @Clint Bizkit

2019 sucked the life out of me unlike any season before, but a few shocking list decisions have kick started my heart and I am back.

Bring on 16th place next year I say.

I stared right into that sun and went blind.

Do we have any interest in Campo?

If he's not good enough for Adelaide then he's good enough for us!

In all seriousness, to go from a decent caretaker coach to out the door is a pretty crazy ride.

Same here mate, same here. Funny how we all respond differently, I reckon a psych major could write a great thesis on the behaviour of people who invest heavily emotionally in to bitterly disappointing sporting teams.

2019 has been the year I pulled right back including pretty much cutting off all football media (which was a great decision even if Melbourne were flying).

After the high of seeing us win two finals in person in front over 90,000 people (I wasn't even that upset about the preliminary final loss) to then go back to be complete and utter rubbish in less than six months just crushed me.

Sacked as soon as the board had time to digest the report. He and Burtonย should be thinking about life after footy now I think, as I doubt theyโ€™re employable in this industry anymore.

To be air though, Camporeale was senior assistant which is a position you would think their new senior coach would want to choose himself. Likely more assistants will be cut too once the new coach starts appointing their own people.

This is a bit simplistic to assume that Campo isn't good enough for us just because he was let go by Adelaide. As Lord Nev pointed out, a new coach usually picks their Senior Assistant. Also, as far as we know Campo may have wanted a fresh start or might already have a role lined up or it might simply be the club seeing the need for change to help rejuvenate the club and it's culture.ย

Whatever way you look at it the Crows have serious problems, with no coach, no chief of the FD, assistants coaches being shown the Dorringtonย and players wanting out all over the place. add the trading period / drafting is upon them.ย

Oh great it could not happen to a nicer mob.

This is the only team in the competition that I truely hate.

yeah but at least they have money and a massive waiting list for both membership and reserved seats.

Agree though it's hard to put the finger on why they have failed in recent years.

Perhaps the AFL needs to consider giving them a priority pick or two !!

PS and who can forgive them for that year when we beat them in the finals yet because of the strange rules applying to "the six" they went on to win the GF.

He did win 7 out of 11 in 2015 as caretaker coach. Inherited a fair team no doubt, but the circumstances couldn't have been easy.

Certainly a crazy ride, without knowing the details of the review it's hard to say. Potentially collateral damage with a new senior coach coming in.

I have hated them and the AFL with serious intent since DJ. And that does not take into account the worst supporters in the comp.

Yes their supporters are a pack of wankers. They make the filth look like they have teeth. Hope they win the spoon next year.

Nothing asked or said about the role of the Board in all this? Donโ€™t ask the reviewers to ask difficult questions...

... nothing to see here, move on!....

Crazy isn't it.

Perhaps the least understood key factor in any team (or organisation for that matter) success is the strength of the board and the how effective its governance is.ย

It is one reason that i am very confident he dees will bounce back. We are in a good space in terms of our board, governance and executive.

haven't given it much thought but inย  a city like Adelaide being on the Crows Board would be quite an influential position.

Wonder what their election structure is like as it could be skewed by the SANFL clubs who own the licence.

This decision - was it due to an external review?

Camporeale was seen to be too close to Pyke. No other finding against him.

Wouldn't have thought loyalty was a bad thing.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourneโ€™s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last yearโ€™s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although itโ€™s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sundayโ€™s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to foolโ€™s gold.
