If we keep pick 3, I'dĀ like to hear views from Demonland's draft intelligentsia about this guy.

Should we call his name at pick 3, possibly forcing GWS to match bid? If they don't match, is he good enough to warrant pick 3?Ā

I'm not a fan of drafting for need, or bidding to force a hand. My view is almost totally 'best available' at that pick.

Thoughts?

Sounds like Moonshadow, contrary to his stated aim of ignoring me has taken my advice on picking Green.Ā

Don't think he is taking your advice, there are plenty of others suggesting we nominate Green but it will be to no avail as GWS will still take him.

Has there been any acknowledgement in the media that GWS want pick 3, or is this isolated to demonland?

I feel like this scenario, if true, should be obvious to people in the business;Ā but i have not heard anyone mention Green or a gws/melb pick swap.Ā

There has been consistent talk of GWS needing to get a 'low pick' to get Green and a high quality draftee.

If they stopĀ where they are, it more or less places his value at pick sixĀ (or we have offered too high a price for our pick).

Mitch Cleary just said that he doesn't think we will bid on Tom Green, which then makes sense why we wont split pick 3.

Good, lets take pick 3, take Hayden Young, look at getting a small at 26 and a tall with out 3rd. Keep a pick for the pre-season or rookie draft and get on with getting the club back on the road.

Can someone pretty please explain this

Ā

is Tom Green an academy player /etc that’s why GWS can match!

Ā

if we bid, and they match, what does that actually mean in terms of draft/ picks/$ etc

we bid on him at 3

GWS says no we’ll match

then what?

they have to give up their next x picks to match the value of 3 in points which effectively releases a player further down the draft?

does it have a deleterious effect on us except maybe make us look like pr1x

they get a 20% discount on points to pick him up - they must use points from their NEXT pick (which is new, i think, as you used to be able to use back-ended picks)

only danger to us is we have to take him, which would be a shame as he looks VERY good

we won't nominate him with 3 i don't think as we won't rate him in the top 3, but who knows...maybe we do! hard to know cos we DON'T LEAK anymore

Thanks !

how can you use points from your next pick, eg if your next pick is 8 how can you take points from a pick??

each pick has points attributed to it

so we use pick 3 to bid on green, it's worth xyz points, then gw$ need to use xyz-20% points, which they can do so by using a combo of pick 12 and pick 50 say which are worth xyz-20% points

it's convoluted, and a farce, but less easily exploited than when sydney matched the mills bid a few years back as an example

That makes sense now

we could force them to pay overs by using 2 picks and sacrificing one to access the points

Ā

all because he’s an academy or father son?

Ā

thanks for explaining, much appreciated !??ļøā€ā™€ļø??

If GWS had pick 3, they could use that on say, Sarong, and then use subsequent picks for Green when a club selects him with their pick. That's why there was talk here that we could split pick 3 with GWS and possiblyĀ receiveĀ 2 picks inside 15 for 3. Could be win/win.

How can they match our 3

Ā

I thought Adelaide were going to nominate Green and that is why GWS want our pick 3?

Trenners won the B&F in the SANFL this year, we have had some pretty ordinary results picking players from that comp. Ā
