Jumper Numbers 2020

Featured Replies

I'll kick off proceedings.

With Corey Maynard retiring and Adam Tomlinson joining the club it's a no-brainer that he takes the vacant number 20 jumper.

Vacant Numbers:

6

20

36

38

43

45

47

Sam Frost (17) is on the trade table, Billy Stretch (15) & Jay Kennedy-Harris (24) have not yet re-signed for 2020.

Harry Petty to potentially get an upgrade to Frosty's #17?

And if we keep Pick 3, perhaps they get #15 or #24?

Considering he was 26 at Freo I think that fits nicely.

wouldn't that mean he gets 2 jumpers - 20 & 6?

Max Gawn to change to no. 2 jumper......

1 + 1  =   11      You can't count.

Tomlinson should take 6. He is now old enough.

and 1+1 in binary is 10

just saying

So you don’t want him to be captain?

How did you deduce that?  If you read my previous posts l have supported Gawny all the way for captain.

Why should he give up the number 11 that Jimmy Stynes  wore ? Max has a personal attachment  to it.

End of explanation.

I don't think Max would give up Jimmy's No. if he was offered to be captain or be the best paid player in the league.

Loyalty and honour still matter to some people - Big Max and Big Jimmy were cut from the same cloth when it comes to that and I will revere them always for it.

I'd be thinking Pickett gets 36, close enough to Nev's locker but after a certain great former indigenous small forward in Flash. Would love to see Aaron present him with his guernsey!

Hahah me too, I could think of nothing worse than trying to play in someone else's shadow.

I grew up in the same town as a young man who was drafted to the Hawks last year by the name of Matthew Walker. Fantastic young indigenous man who has worked his [censored] off and sacrificed an enormous amount compared to other young men from the country and he was given Cyril Rioli's number 33.

I've always felt that was the the biggest vote of confidence you can be given as a player, given the number of a newly retired champion, but you can't sense it comes with a certain amount of pressure?

I guess at the end of the day every number has a history when your club goes back over 150 years, but I would certainly prefer to make my own number famous.

Guess:

6 for LJ

24 for Pickett

36 for Bennell

I get what you're saying but he's a top 10 pick, pressure is going to be there whether he likes it or not and as you've said pick just about any number and there'll be history to it. I feel there are some guernsey numbers that have special association to the indigenous players we've had at the club and if nothing else it would be an absolute kicker to see Flash around the club again. (Although if Kozzie gets a first round call up his first game will be in Perth ?‍♂️)

Besides Flash hasn't played for 7 years, it's not like it's super recent history unlike giving a player Cyril Rioli's number.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • GAMEDAY: Gold Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
