Dees don’t even have to bid, Crows and Syd will

What I meant was that could we conceivably land Green and Kemp or is it merely a pipedream.

I think so, they are stocked with inside midfielders and if he wasn't part of their academy, I doubt they would even be considering him with their pick. If he is at a similar level to Jacob Hopper he would be a poor pick for them. They would benefit from selecting players with more versatility.

Does he make a good choice for us then? I don't know much about Green, but they naturally compare him to a current footballer, being Cripps. If he's as half as good, he and Clarry would be a very good duo, with Kemp in there for x factor and goals. I don't mind it.

And no, Osilik, I'm not asking you. Yes, inside mids, blah, blah, blah.

Someone with an open mind, please.

The thing with Green is that his performances stack up. As one recruiter said recently, if Green was playing in the NAB League and not tied to an Academy, he would have been spoken about more as a No.1 pick contender. His performances for the Allies, leading his side in the midfield against highly rated stars each game, and his consistency for the GWS Academy team, adds weight to his efforts. A tall, big-bodied, strong and hard-headed midfielder who goes and wins the footy and gets it out. Likely to attract a very early bid for the Giants to match.

Based on the above, and if you were going to take best available, I think we’d have to seriously look at him. Personally I think Young might suit our needs more then Green, but if he has the potential to be the next Cripps, can you pass him up? From everything I’ve read though, GWS will match any bid on him, and his brother next year too.

GWS will match the bid for Green at any pick. They're trying to get earlier in the first round to get a player before the bid comes. If they can’t pull that off, they take him whenever the bid comes.

0% chance we get Green, even if we bid for him with pick 3.

Is there any chance that GWS don't match a big for Green and we end up with Green and Kemp?

GWS pick or match Green no matter what.  He will be a star and (like Hopper) the Giants again get gifted a star.

Coniglio and Ward back are two handy additions - A graders - add Jacobs and then add Green whose ready to go. Ouch.

I reckon it will take GWS at least a year to recover from this years capitulation in the GF, as we know too well.

1- Suns Rowell

2- Suns Anderson

3- Dees nominate Tom Green

Giants match. Lose pick 6

4- Dees Hayden Young

5- Crows Dylan Stephens

6- Swans Sam Flanders

7- Freo Luke Jackson

8- Dees Brodie Kemp

9- Blues Caleb Serong

 10- Freo Deven Robertson

Lachlan Ash would be the one who may slide but would be a bargain pick at 11+

Thanks Buck.  Here's the podcast if anyone's interested (apologies if posted already in this thread)...

Serong is certainly right up there in terms of inside mids (pushes forward at times as well).  Is there a place for another on our list i wonder?

It was an interesting listen. They had us bid on Henry at 8, then take Weightmann after a matched bid. I'd be happy bidding on Henry at 8, but I'd prefer Kemp, Stephens, Serong or Robertson at 8. 8 is too early for a Weightmann or Pickett type. Henry is in a different class to the other small forwards and could well wind up a midfielder/forward hybrid in the Michael Walters mould.

I just hope we keep both pick 3 and 8 and then we can land Young and one of Kemp/Stephens/Serong. It'd be a great draft for us if we did!

Twomey is a poor man's Matt Burgan. When Matt vacated the AFL drafting gig for a stint at the Dees, the AFL handed the reigns to the work experience boy.

Very harsh. Cal is only getting better with more experience and has produced some very good stuff this draft period. How much did Burgo even do on the draft? His Burgatron was fantastic reporting but clubs were far more open back then and there wasn't academies and live trading to work through. Phantom drafts were possible, now they are just about impossible.

Twomey is across all the names and has done a good job sniffing out some very plausible picks and trade rumours.

The thing the draft coverage badly misses is Emma Quayle at the Age and Brett Anderson at SEN/Inside footy.

No. Handed over the reigns two years back now. Now it’s a mixture of people, including players, doing the media work and podcast.

Cal has been confident that we are keen on Weightman for a while now, wonder why he didn’t ask Taylor about him in his interview?! Off limits maybe?

Agree that Emma Quayle is sorely missed. I'm not much of a Kevin Sheehan fan either.

& just to put their list in context, this list was compiled as 'needs base' as opposed to where they actually think the boys will fall.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
