“There has never been any suggestion that he wants out of the club, but the Melbourne offer, of at least two years, is almost certain to exceed Collingwood's current one given the salary cap constraints at the Pies”. - Niall.

I haven’t heard or read anything else that indicated Elliott’s intentions or his thoughts on our offer.

Jake Niall is a massive Pies fan who has close links to Eddie and Bucks. He'd know exactly what's happening

I'm confused. Are you insinuating Niall is playing at something here?

No, just that he'd know more than most which outcome is likely

Let's speculate then. If Niall and the Pies are close, it might work for them to put pressure on Elliott to sign for below market value if they put it out there early, that we're chasing him.

He is no doubt a player we need in our Forward mix.

I think the next two weeks will determine where Elliott plays his footy next year.

If he has a reasonable finals games against GWS and Potentially Richmond, he can name his price on the contract.

I think he'll be serching for a 3-4 year deal at around 600k-700k a season, no way Collingwood can make room for him, unless he accepts unders on a reduced term of 2 years.

I would offer him 3 year deal on 600k with a trigger for a 4th depending on appearances.

There is no way his management would get him to sign now. This is his last major pay day.

He's not leaving Collingwood. We've done our due diligence in offering a contract to an OTC small forward. In turn we'll likely lose Frost. Hope we know what we're doing.

Jamie has stated that his plan A in life has been to be an AFL footballer. No plan B. Offering a significant improvement on his future financial security could be very very tempting.

Oh, I figured as he is a Lorne boy that there is a media  'go home factor' (tm)  which is Geelong, you know because, it's their backyard and etc etc yadda yadda yadda....

Elliot was just on 3AW his desire is to be able to run through the middle or wing at times.

He was non comital when Lloyd pushed him about staying at Collingwood beyond this year.

Below quotes from Elliott’s interview with 3AW. Considering Collingwood are still in the running, sounds fair enough to me.

“I’ve always said that I’m going to wait until the end of the year to negotiate anything,” Elliott told Sportsday.

“I felt like I needed to get back and play some good footy, missing a whole year last year.”

Asked if he was chasing a long-term deal (which he’s been linked with at other Melbourne-based clubs), Elliott said that would be “great”.

“But I’ve got this week to focus on and potentially a week after that,” he said.

“All my focus is on this week.”

I understand that Elliot is not one that we are intent 100% upon getting. We have had discussions, outlined an offer and made sure the door is open for further talks after his season wraps up. He understands the interest is there for a potential deal.

The implication being there are others? Others outside of those so far reported?

I believe that we have a few lines out in discussions with potential forwards. Not only for this trade period but for next as well.

I think that was always going to be the case TK.  His Manager (and his good self) would be mad not to wait.  Each appearance in a final effectively ups his value somewhat, assuming he doesn't incur a significant injury or put in a horror.

The answer is dependent upon the question asked?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
