“Players may not have come back with the right attitude and the sense that finals was just going to roll around again."

“They’ve been dealt a harsh lesson this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if the attitude was changed coming back to the pre-season.”

Lewis questions Demons attitude in year from hell

Some truth starting to leak out of the MFC now...

What a Suprise. I think the Coach felt the same way too.

Practise Match form is important

Id love to say im surprised but sadly Im not.

A long overdue blast.

Big question though is will the remaining players take heed, take pride, and take collective and individual responsibility?  Each and every one.

Speaks Volumes of our 2 Captains. They should just walk now.

Nobody took any notice of what Max said at the B&F

”You cannot win the Flag in the off Season, but you can certainly lose it...”

Of Course we plummeted

Amazing isn’t it

this should have been howled down and sorted in half an hour after Christmas. But no it festered all year.

We must keep recruiting leadership, what Lewis has said confirms that

Either do the other 50k members! Boils down to culture & leadership. When you consider this group failed so poorly in the last game of 2017 to miss finals. Who drives the standards  within the group? Who maintains the culture? Are the leaders/captains not responsible to pick up on the attitudes etc???

For [censored] sake - I don't get how supporters expect players to train or play harder because we haven't been successful for 55 years. Players want to play well, be part of a successful team and earn accolades. What happened before they were born might mean something to supporters but is not relevent nor should it be to the players.

Fair point, but how many times did we hear them say 'this will burn in our guts' or 'this will drive us harder' over the last 2 years? Clearly just saying what they thought people wanted to hear.

I think Goody has covered for the playing group in press conferences and the media. The players will learn from this year and with Burgess on board I'd expect they will come back fit and hungry.

yep and he said he is sick of finishing every year badly since hes been at the club. and yet it happens yet again.

Good point Lord Nev, I don't think the players really understand how much every moment counts. I'm optimistix that this year will be a massive wakeup call, its now a matter of how far back we have fallen and need to catchup.

Big Max at the start of pre season should stand up in front of the group and tell them that he is in the prime of his career and does not want to waste another year with players who are not serious.  He deserves to be Captain and he will be totally wasted with his talent if this group does not take their careers to a new level.

it should absolutely be relevant. they are wearing the jumper and our history is so important. We should be the most hungry club in the AFL, and we are the least. stunning level of sh1tness.

But why cover? Goody should have been ropable if such an attitude  existed.

We got smashed in a Prelim, it wasn’t as if we were even close.

Burgess must drive them harder than anything they have had before, from Day 1.

Many are happy being AFL players.

I would love to know if Lewis actually said anything to the playing group in the pre season or has he just saved some home truths for the way out.

You are making excuses for the players Chook

They haven’t been hungry all year.

Why they are not the Hungriest bunch of kids in the AFL, i will never understand.

Fact is this Club hasn’t won a Cup in 55 years and we are still eons away

Agreed. Its easy now isnt it. he was a PART of the playing group and a senior respected figure. Anyway, its all too late now. As one of the few positives to find,  If they dont come back back angry and hungry after their experience this year then nothing will motivate them.

This same group played like spuds in the last game of 2017, laid  zero tackles & missed playing finals. Is 2017 relevant??? Stop making excuses for them! Lewis came 3rd B&F in 2017 after winning 4 flags. Who’s the one with the hunger & culture issue???

SWYL don't get me wrong I think the players let themselves, the team and supporters down badly. The different opinion I have is that making the prelim last year should have provided the motivation to do everything to win prelim and GF this year. I don't see 55 years without a flag as motivation, at all, for the playing group. Footy players have short careers that can be glorious (Jordon Lewis) or forgettable and they need to approach all aspects of the game with this mindset.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
