We're a long way off a really good basic football team. Our fundamentals are deplorable at times." Max Gawn speaks on Melbourne's nightmare season

Well at least he just tells it as it is.

Saints had good players out too. You are talking schoolyard stuff and not looking at the issues

And you obviously aren’t interested in statistical fact, which is precisely what I was presenting. Yes, we’re playing badly, and it’s f***ing horrible to watch, but your juvenile response does nothing to rebut that our performance reflect the facts as they are.

OSCAR McDonald, Wagner's, ANB get the [censored] out of this football club you spuds!

I have been a Goodwin but not anymore! I am done!

I woud have kept playing Preuss with strict instruction to run run run. Get him match conditioned this year.

You saw his leg last week yeah? Add that to his already horrible tank and that 'run run run' would last about 8 minutes.

Plenty of time for running during the week.

So the fact that we have had the most players unavailable week to week of any club this season, and up to round 12 (it could be still) of any club in the AFL EVER means nothing to you over-reactive clowns? The single most reliable stat to predict a club’s ladder position is players unavailable week to week, thus through a season. Not speculation or supposition....this is fact. Nobody wants to talk about it because it takes the art discussion out of the game. We are where we are because week to week we have been playing with a decimated list. Brisbane are 2nd for the opposite reason.

Rubbish.

Look at Richmond. Number 1 defender - out. Number 1 forward out. Number 1 ruckman - out. Yet, they still remain competitive.

Why? Becuase they have a solid foundation and are well drilled.

Dont put this inept performance (performances really) down to injury.

I actually think Viney has been playing like this for a while. He developed a reputation as a tough-as-nails player but that doesn't mean he has to dive into packs without thinking through what he wants to do.

His 'dive' is more artful now than his footballing skills, the [censored].

Champion Data also over-rated the list. According to Channel 7 we were to ranked at the start of the season.

Lots of explaining all round

If anyone needed any reminding not to place any credence in Champion Data's rankings, take note now

He's not alone in this but he's been exposed of late for mine.

Wow. You guys just don’t get it. Read carefully.....total games unavailable from the WHOLE list have a near to linear relationship to ladder position across a season. It’s NOT my opinion, it’s a stat, a fact, not a theory.

Anyway Im going to cheer myself up and go to you tube and look at highlights from the 2 final victories last year. Just remind myself that we were a good team and we actually put geelong and the hawks out of the finals and I wasn't dreaming it.

You'll also see due to our terrible skills we made hard forken work of both those games.

Well at least he just tells it as it is.

Good of him to say, but we can all see that as plain as day.

What's important is the rectification. There's been absolutely nothing in response to the ineptitude.

This time last year were were siting 6th having just beaten adelaide. Oh how things change. Back to reality.

By the way we play richmond next week. I'm already scared of the result.

Pretty obvious we need to run through another anti-online bullying banner.

Too many B graders, and with our bookends out in TMac and May we just are not cutting the mustard.

Whatever floats your boat. Go and join the old ducks that used to clap the boys off after the hidings we used to get week in/week out.

You can spin stats any way you want. We were putrid. End of story.

Injuries or not - what we're all watching is disgusting football.

I would love to see winning football by a team that is so injured it simply can't carry it out. Instead, we get a team that has no plan with or without the ball.

Of course it wouldn't. Another stupid decision by the match panel. Who would care if we lost whilst getting games into Dunkley, Lockhart, the 2 ruck system in Preuss.

Tonight was just dumb, as a professional football club this was a fail. Lewis, Wagners, OMac. Even Smith who isn't the future. No club in the current environment would've made these selection decisions.

Lewis i get for on field coaching and can play half a match or so with some impact and decent finish / decision making.

The two wags give some sort of contest for a half.

Smith & Omac should not be playing vs Pruess & anyone for Oscar who has height and a bit of speed off the mark & athleticism.

Coaching panel is clueless at selection and maintaining cohesion / faith with those who are likely to be around next year vs those that wont (shouldn't!).

Culture.

We are faarked just like the Melbourne building and recycling industry.

Not even the slimmest chance of recruiting Brad Hill now surely. i can't see any injection of outside pace having much effect if they're not skilled players as Ed Langdon is said to not be. We could use another elite midfielder to pick up the slack for when Clarry is tagged. You'd throw the kitchen sink at Coniglio but he wouldnt touch us with a 10 foot pole.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.

  • CASEY: Collingwood

It was freezing cold at Mission Whitten Stadium where only the brave came out in the rain to watch a game that turned out to be as miserable as the weather.
The Casey Demons secured their third consecutive victory, earning the four premiership points and credit for defeating a highly regarded Collingwood side, but achieved little else. Apart perhaps from setting the scene for Monday’s big game at the MCG and the Ice Challenge that precedes it.
Neither team showcased significant skill in the bleak and greasy conditions, at a location that was far from either’s home territory. Even the field umpires forgot where they were and experienced a challenging evening, but no further comment is necessary.
