Greg Denham just said on SEN he wants out of Freo and will be seeking a return to Victoria for the 2020 season. No club yet specified.

Triple premiership Hawk wingman, Freo B&F 2017, exquisitely skilled smooth mover. And still only 25yo.

Statistically 2019 is shaping as the best season he’s put together as well. Showing absolutely no decline in his output.

You’ll have to mount a pretty strong case as to why we should go hard after this player given his skill set is exactly what we need.

Start the bidding at our second round pick thank you very much.

And cue the negative Nellies in 3 - 2 - 1 ...

”He’d cost too much ... “

”He’ll only go to club X, Y or Z”

”Overrated ... “

”Off field problems ... “

Etc etc etc. Yawn.

Probably a typo, as you probably meant  ----as to why we shouldn't go hard---

But perhaps you can see why people nitpick as it totally changes the context.

I think he would be a good pick up.

Massive yes from me. He’s pretty much the perfect wingman and exact type of player we are crying out for with his running and kicking skills.

Our second round pick will be higher than nearly all others unless we win some pointless games and [censored] it up. I’d throw up our second rounder and hope it’s enough.

Cheers. Edited.

Surely we would prioritise a player like Brad Hill over another defender in Alex Keath (not convinced about that rumour).

why does he want to leave after wanting to go home and play with his brother and his team are on the up?

sounds like Denham BS to me

Big yes to Hill, sign his brother up as a free agent as well if that's what's needed. Freo paid pick 23 for him 3 years ago and he's still got 2 years on his contract to go so he'll be around the same price again I'd say. Let's hope he was mates with Jordy so he can get in his ear, if the rumor is true, coming from Denham though it probably a crook of siht.

I hate hypetheticals but yes I'd take him but no a 2nd rounder wouldn't be enough from freo's point of view

I agree.  Out of interest what did Freo give up for him?

But seriously @Matsuo Basho, maybe google old posts to add new info, so we can get a chronological history on players as trade targets? Or Mods can just merge threads?

Kudos to you most certainly JohnnyD. Think ‘Brad Hill’ deserves its own thread though given today’s public comments by Denham. He usually has pretty good mail.

I'd just love to see a long chronological history of our desperate chase for outside runners in 2025 when we're folding and looking at the opportunities we should have taken but instead went for your inside sparrows ?

I should probably add my take:

I think we should offer Brad Hill 800K.

Get it [censored] done.

With you.

2.4m over 3y or 2.8m over 4y. Get it done.

Make Hill one half of the silver lining of this bottom six finish. The other half being the best available kid in the top six of the draft.

We can seriously improve our list this October if we play our cards right.

I didn't realise Brad Hill was still only 25 (26 in a couple of weeks). Interesting to see his recorded disposal efficiency (generally between 65-68%) isn't super high as might have thought it would be. However, he does get the ball inside 50, and effectively, he gains a LOT of ground, which you'd expect since he kicks three times more than he handballs. He is not a god of football, not a perfect player, but oh yes he would be supremely useful for us right now and for the forseeable future.

Stephen Hill is a bit old but also a free agent. Would be a tricky balancing act of risk-reward given that he is showing signs of aging (with the recurrent quad problem the headline), a particlarly problem when your game uses so much speed and agility.

I worry that if a trade did happen, Freo might want to use Hill as part of a package (swap of 1st-rnd picks) to get right to the top end of the draft, and I'm not keen on giving away any early pick that might come our way.

Best solution as I see it, is for us to win a bunch of games, end up with our first pick being around 7 or 8, so we can talk about pick swapping without the angst of giving away a shot at absolute top-end talent. :D As with all things, best solution is to win more games.

No chance of Brad Hill ever coming to the Dees. Was very close to seeking a trade last year to the hawks.

He'll be a hawk when he decides to come back to Victoria.

It’s not always that simple. He is not a FA and Freo under Peter Bell have shown they will look for the best deal for the club, not necessarily what the player in question wants. Melbourne will have an earlier second round pick in the draft than Hawthorn. Hill may have to compromise if he wants to return to Victoria.

Steven May’s first preference was to go to Collingwood last October trade period. He’s now a Demon. Watch this space.

Mate he's no chance at all.

Once they nominate a club they just simply get there. Hill will nominate Hawthorn and get there.

Short of being his manager or his old man I’m sorry DazzlerD but that’s not something you or anyone else can know definitively. Until the bell rings the stock exchange is open.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
