is it just me or does his voice sound a bit shaky/nervous at times?

Lever, May, Hannan - can Goodwin find any more underdone players to bring in this week? Salem after a couple of weeks off, perhaps?

I noticed that at the beginning then it settled a bit.  iirc, he usually does his mid week presser standing up.  Hope he is well.

Surely Lever cant play in such a huge game with so little match fitness/practice under his belt. I might sound like a broken record, but it just reeks of desperation to play him this week. We have enough underdone players already.

As to Goodwins appearance in the presser, he has GOT to be feeling the heat right now or he isnt human. Hope thats all it is for his sake.

Goodwin looks NQR, very nervous and upset looking, I wonder what the issues are? Health or pressure? Hope he's OK.

Was also very obvious to me that he didn’t sound right at all for that first minute or so. Moments where he sounded just as he did with that last presser he pulled out of...

LH, he definitely settled after that, no doubt... but the man can’t be 100%

Seems more than just dizzy spells to me. Hopefully not.

In what way is May underdone? He’s been training since forever and played a full, dominant game in the VFL last week.

I don’t think there’s much more prep he could have done to prepare. You just threw his name in there because it suited your whinge.

And it’s totally ridiculous to suggest Salem might be unfit after two weeks where he’s been able to train in full.

Goody does sound a bit short of breath. But gees I love the message and focus he has.

All those baggers out there can get stuffed.

May and Lever might yet be fine players for melbourne and no doubt we need quality defenders but imagine from a pure excitement point of view if we were bringing in two experienced first round pick, forwards or mids for this weeks game.

Definitely looks like nerves - he wasn’t like that at all last year so it must be about the perceived pressure. Hopefully he starts to feel better.

Also noticed that he’s sitting as another poster has mentioned, so potentially finds that a bit easier.

He was standing a couple of weeks ago when he had to leave the presser in similar viewing.

Same arguments re Lever.

Travis Varcoe lurking at the back of the room ready to tackle him?

Not so Bing. (From me anyway)

My argument with selecting Lever is that he has not shown any decent form in his 1 and a half games since returning to the field. May played well last week so he deserves the call-up. Salem is an auto-in after only a couple of weeks out as far as im concerned. Lever has been out for a year and has not yet found his feet. I will be shocked if he plays a good game on Monday if selected.  As is said, it reeks of desperation when our season is essentially rooted already.

I reckon he sounded OK, not half a bad as the other one.  probably just some mild panic feelings due to sustained stress, happens to the best of us.

I actually found it hard to focus on anything aside from his eye brows. the right one is up, stayyys up.  left one is dancing around.  he must have a decent stink-eye

ps, wasn't going to post that second line but i'd already pressed the submit reply button

It's a Bing-Ding-Dong battle between you two!

Seems stoned, is stuttering, long pauses,  lips moving with no words coming out at times. Weird.

Could be the fact my internet at work is lagging terribly i guess.

fair point but honestly we are desperate. An 80% Lever would do better what is currently there.

Agree Hannan was brought back too soon however.  he was rusty as

Yes, we probably are desperate, but that indicates to me that the club still think we are a shot for finals action, or the risks just wouldnt be worth it. I hope they end up being right ofc, but cant see us making it unfortunately.

Rushing players back from long breaks (without games in the 2's to find some form) almost never works out well.

Especially in huge game like Mondays will be.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
