What was Rampe thinking climbing the goal post? Should have actually been a free kick in the goal square.

Still laughing at this, that’s catlike by Rampe.

I think the more pertinent question is why was Myers allowed to take that kick? On the coverage I was watching the siren clearly blew a second before he marked the ball. It wasn't even borderline, the siren clearly went before the mark.

Can anyone confirm if that was indeed the case, or my feed is total crapola?

Edit: I've just watched the final 2 minute clip on the AFL website and it has been 'doctored' right at the point where Myers marks the ball. The original vision was smooth, that vision has a cut in it right at the crucial point. Coverup!

The whole sequence was odd, whoever the bloke was lining up for the shot was smirking and winking to team mates prior to the kick like he had it in the bag. Then he and Heppell giggling about it afterward like it was at the end of the 1 qtr or something. Suck it Ess fans, you’re captain is a loon!

Ohhh Hahhaha that makes the Rss loss even more enjoyable! How did they miss that?!

It’s when the umpires hear the siren, should taken a second longer to hear it at that distance from siren to umpire for sure.

Bombers fans losing it on Twitter. Hilarious.

Wtf was rampe thinking though?!

cheat fans claiming the ump favoured swans all night. How can you be that deluded???

They must have heard it early at end of 2nd qtr as it looked like the Syd player kicked the ball before the siren went.

Ha Ha, that’s what most thought but reading an article this morning perhaps not.

Umpire Andre Gianfagna ran towards the goalsquare and said "Down, down" to warn Rampe while Myers' shot was in the air.

Bomberblitz in meltdown also.  The carping on here after a loss pales in comparison.  There's even a reference to a softening of hatred towards us lol...

?? It’s getting harder by the week to give Melbourne ■■■■ for under achieving.

?? 2-6 last season, 3-5 this season. We’ve learned nothing.

Get â– â– â– â– â– â–  Essendon.

?? This loss has tipped me over the edge.
I think I’m done.
Zero progress in over a decade and I’m severely tested.
Enough is enough.

?? Seriously, dumbest ■■■■■■■ footballers in the country. Bombing long didn’t work the first time, didn’t work the 31st time didn’t work the 51st time, so let’s just try it one more time and see if it works hey Dys. ■■■■■■■ idiots.

Heppell should lose the fxxcking captaincy over this photo. It should be front page of the HS.

?? I’m done. Never been so despondent after a game in the last 15 years. The talent is there. Captain and coach have to go. Two years in a row of being the best / worst team.

#$%& this team. Never felt this way but I’m done. Glad they’re all mates and have fun together. Hodgey was prob a !@#$ of a bloke but got them flags. Heps isn’t the one to lead us to the gloryland and neither is woosha.

?? Tonight has confirmed,as Essendon supporters, we have absolutely no right referring to other teams as 'peasant loser clubs

That is the most pleasant read I’ve had for a while. Cheating losers. Haven’t won a final for 15 years. They have zero leadership

have talent but no grunt

It keeps getting better*!!!! Our mate from last week screws the Dons hahhhahaha.

*until we lose by a kick after the siren after a rubbish 50 is given against us this afternoon.

MFCSS kicked in

geez, as much as I love seeing the Druglords get robbed,  the umpiring department needs to have a royal commission and everyone must be sick to death of the Cola Swans being looked after year after year.

I hear you Dub but I'm not gloating given they beat us only a few weeks ago and how we've been travelling till last week.

Essendon and Geelong are the two teams I despise the most this season.

A former MFC rookie.... good to see him still involved in the game. Reminds me of Paul Reiffel a former Australian cricketer (35 tests) who is now on the elite cricket umpire panel. Would be good to see a few more of those players who did not quite make it on the AFL umpiring panel.

In the days of Ricky Barham flying down the wing and Tommy Hafey as their coach they were my second team. It only lasted until they won the 1990 premiership. I think that was the year my MFCSS started as I began to realise any team could have won that year and we fluffed it.

Thats what makes there loss even better. Can you imagine Longmire after the game if Rampe gave away the free for doing something so stupid. I'm tipping Rampe was spoken to after the game on not to do that again.

Just watched the last 2 minutes. That was a good tackle by Blakey  in the closing moments. Although not sure why he chose to kick it where to did to Hurley on is own and not down the line. But did you notice the wink and the smile Myers did as he marked it? As if to say watch this. Well he stuffed it.

Gee how rapt would the lions players be coming down to play at Ballarat today?  nice 13 degree day for them.

....sounds all too familiar to me. Another fan website i know of perhaps....

If one of our players missed a shot after the siren that far out you could maybe forgive them for missing, but if that player then went over to Jones or Viney and they started laughing you would be annoyed.

But it is stupid that we lose to essendon, we beat sydney and essendon lose to the swans. It does make our loss to them hurt more.

Carlton could be in for another painful long day.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
