Gold Coast is 24 and sunny tommorow (though weirdly the BOM still says 10% of rain) and hopefully the game concludes before any dew settles.

Surely you are too young for a retirement home or time spent commuting between the bowls club, the shopping mall, or the boardwalk ?

Other thing in tomorrow's GC forecast is strong winds...

Probably mate.

As I get older I see the sense in Neil Young's lyrics that "Its better to burn out than fade away.""

When my time comes, I think I will go for the air injection.

And don't believe the myth that Ernest ended it all by shotgun. Far too messy.

I would have much preferred a fully fit ANB over a player who’s carrying an injury.

At least we have one spot under pressure.  ANB was badly out of form prior to his short stint at Casey.  What a great return considering where he was coming from earlier in the year.

I don't understand why some D'landers get so offended when posters suggest (in a nice way) that a short spell might be required at Casey, regardless of who it is.  If you're badly out of form week after week it's a great opportunity to turn things around under less pressure/spotlight.

ANB a great example.

Imo its a good way to reset the mind.   To get the self propelled monkey of their backs.

Seems even stranger when we have a 6 day break coming up, on top of the longest trip in footy (Qld to Perth), I would have thought ANB is one of the fittest at the club so would be better suited to back it up. I can see whoever the travelling emergencies coming in next week regardless of result, and maybe a number of guys at Casey having restricted minutes.

What genius at AFL fixturing gave us two consecutive away games interstate.

Doesn't fuss me overly given that the season is dead but if we had been flying form wise it would have been an issue.

I'm even looking forward to Darwin this year... a great chance to play loads of kids.

If you count the North game in round 23 that we play in Tasmania we play interstate six times.

Air injection!? Are you mad? Isn;t that supposed to be the absolute most painful wait to die, and comes complete with the possibility of living on with a bunch of organ failures and brain clots? Hang on... why do I know this? What is wrong with me?

As for football... I'm a little worried about Viney, a little sorry for Nibbler who at least kept at it all day, and a little excited because I just have this feeling like something is going to click. Not in a  'stars dominate' way, but with that layer of players like Fritsch, Stretch and Hunt, for whom their better form is actually very effective but their weaker form is a real vulnerability. Funnily enough, Nibbler would be in that group, except he's allegedly going to be at Casey!

game should start around 20C and end at around 16/17C. late afternoon very little wind forecast

great conditions for football with a smaller ground suiting us.

anb tends to start every season out of form then slowly works back into form. why i don't know. maybe he needs to focus more on skills in the off season

I hear you DC.  This was the case last year to Rnd 3.  After that there were some downs and ups.

This year he seemed to start off ordinary then went dramatically downhill from there before being dropped for the trip to Sydney.

I would say with Nibbler it's more of a week by week proposition and that's where part of his problems might lay eg.,  from a 'trust' POV with Goody & selectors.   AFL a tough gig and very easy easy from here of course.  These guys have to get out every week and bring it so hats off to any player who makes it at AFL level.  Every week is also different depending on what sort of role is asked of him and the quality of whom he is matched with.

Using average weighted composites (obviously Rnd 1 a snap shot as we have no averages to go on) comparing the first 7 rounds from 2018 to 2019 as a rough guide to trends in form...

Anyone else a little concerned Goodwin says they’re leaving the decision on playing Viney ‘completely up to him’?

Jack’s pretty much admitted he’s rushed himself back before and we know what happened then.

Surely the medical staff should be involved in this decision, but hey, that’s probably for the Shaun Smith thread...

When they say 'Test' in the injury update...is that just lip service?  Surely they put them through a series of tests and if they pass those it'd then come down to a trust issue PF.

The way i read it Goody is putting it out there in public effectively saying to Jack "FCS Jack...do the right thing by the club and your team mates and call it if you're in any doubt".

Hnmm This should be how it is, but reading between the lines JV gets to say when he plays and when he doesn"t

Happy to be corrected on this. Just what appears to be!

I'm expecting James Harmes to continue his form - create a range of scoring opportunities, and jag 3 goals. He is a fine fine player and I look forward to seeing him play live for the first time this year.

Of the 2014 draft (he was a 2014 rookie,)

Brayshaw

ANB

Petracca

OMAC

Harmes

Brayshaw and him are neck and neck with respect to importance to the team, and their influence on the game, compared to the others.

5 years on and that’s looking like a definite win of a draft for us. All 5 players contributed and took us to our first prelim last year in a bloody long time.

I think most MFC supporters would be fairly well informed on such matters.

Building up fitness, and then confidence, on top of.

He strikes me as a low confidence person.   Maybe a bit shy-ish, in a sense ?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
