Goodwin: When you’re a new player to a footy club all you want to do is show off the hard work you’ve done.

Steven hasn’t had the chance to do that yet, but his attitude towards his training has been great.”

Hasn't actually been able to show off what he hasn’t actually done seems more to the point.

Hasn't given himself the chance more to the point.

Who is the boy to the left of Goodwin in the press conference? Why is you are bald would you wear a red toupee?

1920s prison haircuts are all the rage.

Worst group-think of any generation.

looks like Chunk Jones with a rug

Goodwin: Jack Viney hasn’t been ruled out yet.
He will have an important training session today + he will make a call on his fitness - he knows his body well.

Jack has a poor record of judging when fit to play.  By his own admission he returned early from his foot injury in 2017 and has had long periods on the sidelines and/or managed game time since.
His game time was managed in games early in the season.  Ditto vs Hawks - he played about 2 of the first 3 qtrs (prior to the shoulder injury).  This suggests something other than the shoulder injury is causing the managed game times.
Have someone else make the decision!

Very good point.. I would not allow him back this week, next week on a hard deck in the West also a concern.

Jsck isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

So yes, i agree wholeheartedly with you that someone else needs to make the decision, not Jack.

“Weideman is sore and we’re looking to give him a rest this week?”

The way goody put it made me think that weids body is quite ready fr week in, week out AFL. Understandable, it takes more time fr some than others.  And I like player management. But don’t put a 650k price in ur head when yr still on trainer wheels!

I wish it wasnt left up to Jack Viney to make a call on whether he plays. He always says he is right to go.

Listening to the Inside Melbourne Podcast this morning. Viney sounded doubtful that he will get up for this week, said there are a few things still to tick off.... but I think he's getting better at listening to the medicos and fitness staff at the club. He's trying to get fit, but I reckon he knows he's not right.

When I heard this (he will make a call, he know's his body well) I almost drove off the road...

Jack is the last person to ask.

I think the decision needs to be taken out of his hands, he's proven in the past that he is the last person to be given the responsibility.

We employ medicos for a reason. Once the player says they are right to play the final decision should always be with them in consultation with the coach.

You’ve got to be kidding. One generation’s groupthink thought the combover was the ideal way to address male pattern baldness. Surely that’s still at the top of the list.

I raise you mullets.

Agree.   All JV really know is that he loves to play footy.  Some serious professional guidance is required.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
