Tomlinson, Langdon, Elliot plusĀ Anderson or Young in the draft is not a bad October trade/draft period.

Would've preferred oneĀ match winning mid with classĀ such as Hill,Ā Jack Martin or Coniglio.

Really hope GCS don't get 1 & 2 and we pick Anderson.

Would pretty much make the off season. We need goal scoring power. We need quality smalls. We need marking options. Heā€™s all of the above.

We should be loading up ok free agents, as they cost us nothing in terms of draft picks and weā€™ve traded away all our first rounders for years on end now.

To add Elliott and Tomlinson without giving up any picks would be huge for the club. Add in Langdon for a second round pick and thatā€™s a very successful off season to balance out list and add mature talent.

Langdon, Elliot, Tomlinson, pick 3/11&13Ā  just need to find one or two good on field leaders to boost that area and it's a very productive off season.

If the Dees get Pick 2. Iā€™m confident it will be traded to GC for Ben King. Therefore, GC get Rowell and Anderson.

If we get Pick 3. Ben King is still on the cards but will play out quite differently. I have two scenarios if I was Recruitment Manager;

Pick 3 to GWS for Pick 12, 14 & a player (eg. Zac Langdon).

We then on trade;

Pick 12 & 14 to GC for Ben King

or ideally

Pick 14,Ā 2020 First Round Pick & player (eg. ANB, J Wagner QLDer,Ā etc...) Add Baker as he is a QLDer also.Ā

We use Pick 12 to select Cody Weightman

Add Pick 20/21 - Ed Langdon &Ā Free Agents - Tomlinson & Elliot.

IN - Ben King, Ed & Zac Langdon, Elliot,Ā Tomlinson, Cody Weightman...

So potentially Tomlinson, Langdon & Elliot coming in, thatā€™s a bit of salary cap space...

who makes way?

Lewis - yes

Frost - maybe

Others - ??

We finished 17th we should have salary cap space.

Lewis already retired, let's call that $400k

Garlett, probablyĀ another $400k

Jones 1 year deal with a haircut (somewhat ironic),Ā  probably another 200k

I'm guessing we already had some wiggle room, we don't have any million dollar players.Ā

No, but weā€™ve got players who think theyā€™re worth a million.

But how can you be certain GC would pick Rowell?

Because they will.

Is Elliott really that likely? Still be favoured to stay atĀ Pies imo.Ā

But he is exactly what we need

The Pies can't afford everyone with De Goey, Grundy and Pendlebury all out of contract. That's what gives us a chance.

And Moore. Itā€™s a nightmare for them. Imagine the dollars being thrown at JDG and Grundy next year. And if Moore somehow had an injury free year next year theyā€™ll be pleading for them to take less.Ā

I think Elliot will likely stay but he might get a few more dollars in the contract.Ā

I was talking to a mate today. They really lack grunt and an accumulator. Rowell not that big but I assume could be a bit like Prestia only slightly taller perhaps. I reckon theyā€™ll go Rowell if they had to take one. Also heā€™s more of a sure thing early on.Ā

I think when we picked up Lever we had room for another big recruit. We then lost Hogan and got May. So there will be money. As you said Lewis Garlett and Jones will free up around a million. I also donā€™t think any of Langdon Tomlinson or Elliott would be demanding massive money.Ā

From the sounds of it we have Tomlinson and Langdon all butĀ signed up. Elliott probably likely to stay at Collingwood.Ā

Although I donā€™t think itā€™s a certainty, I think Rowell would suit GC more. HardĀ inside mid who will probably averageĀ 20-25Ā possessions a game in his first season, touted as a future Captain too, leadership qualities that GC need. At 178cm heā€™s 10cm shorter then Anderson but that shouldnā€™t be a factor for GC.

Well that explains it.

Thanks, that is a good answer.

No way the GC are going to let King Go.. they will dig in, they cant let a player go, it will be counter productive to there push for priority. The AFL will make sure that they dont trade King, they get picks 1 & 2 and that they will hope like hell the environment gets better so King wants to stay.

See i think the opposite. if they think it's likely King will go as soon as he can they may want to maximize value now, and pick 3 is certainly a good return. would be a win-win for both clubs.

Good points and i agree that it would be a good win for us Patches. Time will tell i suppose, hard to make a call either way right now.

No chance. GC arenā€™t looking for a win-win. Theyā€™re looking to make a statement, that players wonā€™t be allowed to just leave each year, even if it means cutting off their nose to spite their face.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking?Ā I mean by ā€œtheyā€ the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.Itā€™s no secret that the Demonsā€™ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack.Ā Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryanā€™s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winningĀ 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
